Do you know which is the classic barbershop scent in your country?
In Italy it is Floid the genuine and according to my barber here in Japan it should be Bravas or Auslese, both made by Shiseido.

Have not been to a barber in 35 yrs,but the one scent that I always remember was a light dusting with Talcum powder.

Actually what I would like to know is the most used aftershaves in the barbershops, more than the scent itself.

Lots swear it's clubman. For me, T&H Grafton or British Sterling remind me of barbershops as a kid.
The most common aftershave I see is Pinaud Clubman. That being said, Barbers using aftershave is becoming rare around here.

The barbershop I went to as a kid smelled like Musgo Real.
Lilac Vegetal is what they used. A combination of that with talcum powder and witch hazel is the classic old time barbershop scent. They used that stuff cause it was cheap not because it was anything special.
yep Spendur is correct ,, many f times in the shop you would hear someone ask for a shot of lilac water to finish up and what Pixel said a dusting of Pinaud talc tc
When I was living in Italy, it was the small of talcum powder.
In Canada, I haven't been to a barber shop in too long a time to remember.
As a young kid, I remember the lilac water. Never knew it was Lilac Vegetal.
Often i read "barber shop scent" and often i say "what kind of barber shop?!"
The only sure thing is that is a particular scent that change from barber shop to another barber shop.(from country to country)
Probably aroma background is talcum powder...but a memory that i had when i was kind is a Floid genuine bit changed(sweeter and woody) i think that is due to the amounts of Floid vaporized in the air mixed with smell of leather chairs and furniture.
This kind of scent was different from other barber...i think is also due to the A.S. most used
Auslese is a good A.S. with particular tone (floreal and sweet tone) i love it ....i also love floid and bayrum....so... i love barbershops of all world :)

Pinaud Clubman.
The one scent that I remember was Clubman. You can get it here at CVS and WallyWorld.
I remember talc most from the military barbers. Pinuad , maybe. It reminds me of barbers and the well dressed gent in the club restrooms handing out towels and a splash. I think they are called clubmen? Always had chewing gum and nicer Colognes if you tipped well.
Clubman in those who still do shaves.
Clubman is probably the aftershave smell I most remember. But it was the shampoos and hair tonic smells that I remember most. Jerris, Wildroot, lucky tiger and my favorite Fitch.

Pinaud Clubman in my barber's shop was both the After Shave Splash, and the Talc dusting. So the scent is forever stuck in my mind, as was the feeling of freshness after that splash after a haircut and hairline and sideburn shaving.
