I would have thought that rose scents would make me smell like a grandma, but eff that. I like a heady rose scent.
So, I'm building a rose shave. I have Geo. Trumpers Rose Soap and I'm getting D.R. Harris pink aftershave. I also have Smell Bent's Cocoa Rose cologne.
What I would love to find is a rose-scented pre-shave oil. I've done a fair amount of searching and have not found one yet. If you know of a rose pre-shave, I would love to hear about it.

I can't help you with the pre-shave oil but Murray and Lanman Colonia de Rosas is the best cologne I've found that perfectly complements Trumpers soap.

Best rose as was Rose of Bulgaria AS and shave cream by Biofresh. Eastern European. Shave a Buck used to carry it but they are long gone
Trumper's Coral Skin Food is worth trying out. I know Trumper says it can be used as a pre-shave as well as an aftershave balm. To me the Coral Skin Food has a very natural rose scent.
Anybody that might be a fan of Queen Charlotte soaps, The Rose Otto scent is rosey but quite masculine also. i use this soap quite often and I haven't put a dent in it during many months of use it seems to last forever. :shrug: I would just make my own preshave oil using castor, grape seed,olive and jojoba oil and add a essential oil of rose that you might like. I hate spending money on preshave oils they are usually expensive and easily duplicated at home.

Your thread inspired me to give rose a try, and I bought this soap. However, I've found that the lather breaks down unbelievably rapidly. If I lather my neck, by the time I finish half, the other half has no lather, which means it breaks down in a minute or two. The scent is great, but the lack of persistent lather is frustrating. I've even tried putting it on drier than usual, and it makes no difference. I don't use any pre-shave oil or lotion; I wash my face, build a lather, and apply.Quote:

You bring up a good point. I'm glad I bought this soap, but I was more interested in the fragrance when I picked it up. I think there's something regal about rose scent. Having said that, I think the Geo. T is a good soap, but not a high performance soap. I'll only compare it to other hard soaps, but this is nothing like a Saponificio, DRH or even TOBS, which give me an incredible lather. However, with the right amount of moisture and a HEAVY load on the brush, I enjoy shaving with this.Quote:

Or if you decide to get just pure rose essential oil for your first ingredient (gonna be more expensive upfront but probably cheaper in the long run) then use another oil such as olive or almond (ingredient 3) to replace the grapeseed oil that the posted link contains. If you're gonna use the posted oil blend, I'd use half the bottle mixed in with 3.5 oz of castor oil (or 3 oz. of the castor and .5 oz of the other oil). If you're gonna use just pure essential oil, I would use 2 oz. castor oil, 1 oz. your other oil, and 10-15 drops of your essential oil.
I broke out one of my boar brushes to see if the stiffness would help in making a lather. I also worked more on loading the brush, and by golly, it worked...I ended up with reasonably persistent lather. It still breaks down quicker than other soaps, but I could finish each pass without having to relather the second half.
I've seen some threads praising the cream version of that soap, so maybe that formulation persists better. I'll wait until I work through the soap before getting the cream, though.
On a related note, I find that Yeti Snot breaks down quickly, too. It's too cold for me to bother with menthol shaves now, but I may bring it to Florida in a couple weeks to see if the boar+extra loading works with that, too.
