Subjective scents

I have never been a big fan of aerosol body sprays. They always struck me as an overkill attempt to cover body odor, and if I'm that desperate I could sneak a quick birdbath in the nearest lockable room with a sink. I have always found their scent overpowering but not particularly offensive....until today.
I was at work and someone decided to "freshen up" with one of these aerosolized abominations and it was lingering in the hallway as I walked past. It was no more powerful than any time I've smelled them previously but the chemical stink was almost nauseating to me this time. I confess to using some unkind words to convey the effect it had on me(I can neither confirm nor deny using the term "toxic nast"), and may have hurt the feelings of an individual who was really just trying to smell better.
My theory is that since I stopped using canned goo and have introduced my sniffer to the more natural and complex scents found in the shave soaps/creams I have been using I have become more sensitized to the insect repellant base notes of products like those.
Has anyone else had an olfactory paradigm shift(a properly pretentious name for it I think) like this since coming over to the light side?

People at my highschool used to "tag" each other with them as a prank. That's how bad they smell. If you were caught using them, you'd be ridiculed...

The ones I find annoying are men's Right Guard, women's Avon, and anything lilac. Makes me wonder why they don't take a shower instead of trying to cover up the BO. I keep two alum bars in my shave den. One for my face after a shave and one for my underarms after a shower.

Yup, I have used an alum deodorant in a twist up tube from Wally World on face post shave prior to using and after shave. If I want to travel light the same alum tube does double duty as a deodorant. Simply wet the end and wipe dry after each use with some toilet paper. Works on sweaty feet too if the need arises.

We used to call using spray deodorants taking a "stoker's shower" in the Navy. Apologies to any Stokers out there.
