While I was searching for a nice "shaving" or body talc I came accros some articles in wich is mentioned that talcum powder can be carcinogenic when repeatedly used. This is also mentioned on the Wiki page about talc:

I'd like to try shaving talc but have my doubts after reading some of those sounds...
I was wondering if you are aware this and if some of you use some form of talcum or 'talcum free body powder' after a shave?
I use talc with a brush on my neck and upperbody and no cancer yet, I swear I hear something causes cancer at least half a dozen times a day. If you listen to them you will never leave you bed.

Could by like the AGAR on apples scare from the early nineties.they gave animals food laced with the equivalent of a gallon of the stuff and low and behold they got cancer.
For the talc studies they probably used it as bedding in the cages before the animals started showing symptoms.
Since I've been on the same can of Clubman Talc for the last half decade I'm not going to worry about my exposure. At that usage rate I could be sprinkling uranium dust on myself and not increase my risk of cancer.
I swear, if you fart more than twice a day, you have cancer. GOOD GRIEF....
LIMIT
Most, if not all of the baby powders/talcs sold around here today are actually corn starch. Could be a Canada thing though.... I've not checked the current Clubman talc... come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I saw Clubman anything on the shelf.

Should I give up the beer, chewing tobacco, pipe, aluminum cookware, my job in a chemical plant, pumping gas, cigars, cell phone, or talc? I think the talc. I don't enjoy it much.

If I'm not mistaken cancer is nr. 1 disease today in Europe. Some people pay more attention to their consuming habits than others for this reason.
Not that I'm over worried, and as some of you mentioned there are tons of other factors that can cause some form of cancer.
I was just wondering :hmmm: if those of you who use a powder, have consciously chosen a 'non talcum powder containing body powder' instead of a 'regular talcum' for this matter or not.
On a hunt for some talcum and a brush...

Does sound scary but then again, Wiki should be taken with a pinch of salt.

From what I remember, and I may end up being corrected....We all have cancer. When we talk bout someone getting cancer it is more that their body has for some reason stopped killing off the cancerous cells. This allows the unchecked growth of the cells leading to ....well death. Now I am just a layman not a Doctor but I do observe and have noted the things of which keep getting the label carcinogen. Note that almost all petroleum products get the label in particular the lesser refined. Also the vast majority of carcinogens are man made ie not natural. So, as time goes on we see more and more reports of people with cancer because we have surrounded ourselves with poison. I have had 4 different friends with cancer in the last couple of years...one who lost the battle. I have given up smoking and am slowly removing unwanted products from my life. Though I cannot say that I pay too much attention to it as the stuff is too pervasive. Consider that in the US it will be illegal to smoke soon ....don't believe me...lol, look at whats happening....the politicians need something to make themselves look good. Anyway consider that secondhand smoke is NOTHING compared to exhaust fumes and how much of those fumes we inhale on any given day....

In general its not a good idea to breath in any finely ground rock products. I know if you visit a quarry where asbestos is mined it takes only one brief exposure to set you up for cancer later in life. I don't know about the talc but personally I wouldn't use it. I remember when I was a kid and you went to a barber for a haircut or shave and at the end they had a talc dusting brush which they loaded up with talc and there would be this huge cloud of this stuff all over. Well I'm 60 and I haven't developed any cancer yet so who knows.
I read that barbecuing meat can be carcinogenic and we already know that pressure treated wood is carcinogenic. Well, seeing how cancer will kill everyone who lives long enough, I think I will gladly catch cancer from talc whilst standing on a deck grilling a t-bone.
