I got my first bay rum today, amazing! I just loved the smell. I suspect the last 1/2 oz of gillette A/S is not going to be used in a long time :)
The bottle says "Caribbean Imported Bay Rum Imported by Body Crystal"
I also got some Sandalwood soap by Classic brand.
Are this products good stuff or could I do even better the next time?

I just got some col. conk bay rum soap i love it. smells like eggnog to me.
Bay rum is my favorite scent I am not familiar with the one you got though. My current favorites are Dominica and Royall. I find the Conk's Bay rum soap to be very subdued.

The bottle mentions quite a few uses: After bath, skin cleanser, after shave, astringent and aroma therapy. And it also says J'adore and "Captain Smiths island spice" that might be a name. I bought it from classicshaving.com
Bay rum is great! If you're a fan of the scent (which obviously you appear to be) I'd highly recommend trying Ogallala Bay Rum. The scent is less overpowering than some. Makes your skin feel awesome and they're great people to deal with. They offer a few varieties on the classic bay rum scent. :)

Other than liking the smell of it... it always brings back memories of the old school barber shops.
As a very young boy, I used to love the smell as my local barber splashed it on the back of my neck after "squaring the back" with a straight razor.
Have used it ever since.

Looks like I was lucky. If Capt Smith's is one of the stronger scented ones, I think I will stick to it.
And I also like the "burn" in it. It doesn't sting like the gillette I used, it is more of a really hot feeling that lasts for a couple of minutes, it was a good feeling after shaving, made me feel refreshed.
If you like the Royall but always found that it was over priced. Somebody in this forum, it may have been Ray G., pointed this one out. I bought it and I am VERY! happy.

In addition to the Bay rum, I got Spice, Mandarin and Vetiver. I love all of them but the Mandarin, like any other ****tail, should be used in moderation.

I will NOT try to drink it :P I got some in my mouth when I used it the other day, it was nasty and bitter.
I have the Capt. Smith's and love the smell, but wish the scent wouldn't disapate so much or so quickly.
Does anyone here know wich bay rum lasts the longest?
I would really love to smell like that all day!

Bay rum is a fine splash. Personally, I'm waiting for the Bay bourbon and Bay scotch so I can rotate splashes as I rotate razors, soaps, and creams.
"Today in this corner we have a fine lather from Taylor of Old Bond Street, shaved off to the smoothness of an infant's patoot by a Wade and Butcher hollow ground, and finished with a splash from the finest single malt Bay scotch." Keeping it on the Isles, as it were.
Tomorrow we may do a Continental shave finished with some Bay cognac or maybe a delicate Bay champagne. Or Bay jagermeister; no that's for next week.:tu

I am the opposite. i absolutely love it. it's my favorite but i like that it only lasts like 10 minutes. For me that is part of the mystique. If you smell like it all day it kind of loses that wonderful feeling. I think i am going to order some of the ones mentioned here. So far i have tried 2 kinds d.r. harris and taylor of old. I guess i'm a little opposite too because the stinging does not appeal to me. I like the smell but the taylor i really dig because it is dark, thick, does not really burn too much and leaves some nice oils in your skin for a little bit. my skin feels nourished and smooth afterwards,Quote:

Bay Rum is like crack to me. I can't get enough. And no, I don't smoke it. :rolleyes:
I have Pinaud's Virgin Island Bay Rum, and The Shave Den Bay Rum splash. Both are awesome, but different from each other.
I also have samples of Ogallala Special Reserve (the best, IMO), regular Bay Rum, and Bay Rum & Sandalwood. I also have Booster's Bay Rum. I like the Booster's the least, so far.
For soaps, Ogallala Bay Rum (full puck), Bay Rum & Lemongrass (sample puck, smells too much like lemon), Bay Rum, Limes & Peppercorns (sample wedge, nice smell), and Bay Rum & Sandalwood (sample wedge, nice smell). I think the Bay Rum and Sandalwood scents go well together.
I am a Bay Rum junkie, and I think I need to pick up that Captain something-or-other in the OP. Thanks.
can someone describe the "bay rum"-scent to me?
I never did extensive research towards various aftershave scents... except the Tabac-smell, which I adore.

You are right about Bay Rum and sandalwood, I have a sandalwood soap and bay rum A/S what a combo :)
Truckman is right, the Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood is very nice, mild, sweet and refreshing. Like you, I seem to go back to the Body Crystal Bay Rum, with Lime. Great scent, a burn that makes Aqua Velva almost feel like rose water by comparison, very refreshing, and the price.Quote:
