Alum block and witch hazel work great. There is also a product called Anthony's that works well.
After shaving rinse with cold water and run the wet alum bloc.
Let it sit a minute and it will cure the burn and surface closeness. Then, blot it off with a cold washrag and go to a witch hazel splash.
Trumpeter's Skin Food has not only Glycerene, it also has gum in solution that provides a nice protective coating.
Sensitive skin..cold water and witch hazel. Forget the other "sensitive" skin products. They coat with their lotions and they dry out with the alcohol.
An alum block is okay...not great. Cold water and witch hazel are your best friends.
Hot rinse followed by alum block
cold rinse
Thayers witch hazel
while still wet with the above, some Nivea balm for sensitive skin
When that's abosrbed/dry, cologne for that oh so good smell
