Anyone try natural Aloe Vera plant?

Yesterday I spent the day with my daughter which involved her getting a manicure, pedicure, eye waxing and all that girly stuff. I also enjoyed a pedicure which involves a lower leg message. well the lady took two peices of fresh aloe plant, crushed them in her hand and rubbed the stuff only my legs and feet. It felt cool and slick on my legs so I took a bit onto my hands at it felt the same way. Very cool and slick.
I was wondering if anyone ever tried to use this as a pre-shave, during the shave, post shave etc.. I plan on hitting the grocery store today and get some. Any comments would be very welcome.

Yes, I use that regularly. I bring a leaf to the bathroom and every day cut about 3/4" off, rub it between my hands, remove the green bits, and then rub the remainder on my face. It's about as natural as you can get!

Can't say I've tried it as an aftershave but it did absolute wonders for me on many a sunburn - so, I'm guessing it'd also be quite amazing for razor burn.

While we all know the benefits and healing power of Aloe Vera I now use derma-life which is an incredible skin care product with Aloe Vera (and other natural ingredients).

I used to have freely growing plants when I was living in California but unfortunately they aren't cold hardy so they are not suited for Vegas if grown outside.

Ive never used it shaving but a friend of mine got severe burns on his forearm from a splash of hot oil from a deep fry'r " he's a chef" and he treated it with fresh alovera from his garden , it healed the burn fantasticly keep in mind it was a severe burn yet it almost left no scar ...seeing is beleiving

This plant is incredible and very easy to grow too. Get one going in your backyard and you will enjoy the benefits for years to come...especially good when you have a burn.

We had one 'til one winter, the frost in CA killed it...bummer. We are planting/growing another one.

I moved mine inside during the winter and it had no ill effects

Yeap...no joke. It was a couple of years back...sub zero temps at night. We were out of town and by the time we got back the next day, it was too late (for the Aloe plant). :(

I have a few inside that I grow in pots in my front porch. I move them inside for the winter. Excellent plant

I use Thayers Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera post shave most days. Great stuff.

I buy big leaves of aloe at the local bodegas. I slice a chunk off the end, cut out the "meat" (usually to blend up with some juices to drink) then use the insides of the front and back leaf to rub on my face before sleep. Has helped me heal faster from nicks. I've also used it after shave and it (or my improving technique) has dramatically reduced the ingrowns I get, to about none.

i have pure aloe gel i purchased from whole foods. i once crashed my bicycle and cheese grated my face into the street.. i seriously looked like freddy krueger.. aloe saved me from any scars at all.. i use it on occasion for aftershave.. but not often.. works great on sunburns..

i also get pure aloe juice from trader joe's by the gallon.. drinking a pint will really help a hangover and overall makes you feel great.

the whole aloe life brand is great... but this gel is my favourite.

Ihave a potted aloe plant that I use for burns or cuts and bug bites.

Never used it as an aftershave but maybe worth a try.

I went and purchased a leaf from Whole Foods Yesterday. I wanted to try it as a pre-shave since is is very slick.
I did my usual shower and prep except I rubbed the fresh aloe onto my skin and then lathered with Trumper's over it.
The aloe made my face very slippery and I had a very nice shave. After the shave, I also rubbed the aloe pulp on my face which was very soothing.

Now, going and buying a leaf all the time and cutting it into little pieces does not get high on my list of things to do. I'll continue with it until I use up the leaf and then go from there.

So, as far as a pre-shave goes, the stuff is VERY SLIPPERY. I may try to use the Aloe alone for a shave and see what happens.

This seems like an obvious solution, but, you could always just buy the plant and be done with it. Since it's a succulent, it requires very little maintenance and they are quite prolific. I have one plant and use one leaf per week and the plant is no worse for it.

Today I tried to use the fresh Aloe without shave cream. It is very slippery and the blade just glided over my beard and skin. No problems and it did not feel harsh at all.
I did both of my cheeks down to my chin. The shave was fine, but I did not like the way it felt. It was kind of gooey on my skin and just felt weird. I then re-applied the Aloe, and used Trumpers over the Aloe. It was much more pleasant and I was able to get a great shave.

I don't think I'll be using just the aloe. I will be using it as a pre and post shave since it makes your skin feel very nice.

I have tried it as a post shave, as well as to aid in minor cuts and scrapes. I would suggest giving it a try - it may just be the placebo effect but it seems to help me.

As far as post shave is concerned, yes I will continue to use it. It is very soothing to the skin. I use it on my entire face as a moisturizer. :o

I take a clean jar pour a bottle of witch hazel in it, then take an aloe leaf strip the pulp out add to the jar.
Then take a couple of big lemons and remove just the thin outer yellow zest add it to the jar. Shake it up good everyday for a week then strain it back in the original bottle.

Works great and I love the way the lemons smell.

Everybody that has tried it loved it.

I would never have thought to use Aloe plant. That's why I love this site! Thanks for the idea.

I used to slice open a fresh leaf and rub it into burns. Works great for healing!

I have on order some Proraso shave soap with Aloe Vera and green tea.

Purchased an Aloe plant. Should be able to use that instead of having to buy a leaf every few days.

Aloe Vera is really very beneficial plant. I use Aloe Vera gel regularly on my face which has got acne scars and it really works. I had also used it for treatment of dandruff. After using Aloe Vera gel on my itchy scalp i feel much relief and dandruff is reduced to much extent. It also promotes hair growth. So, Aloe Vera benefits can be largely seen in skin and hair loss treatment.

I used to use aloe vera as a "shave gel" in my past life as a mach 3 user. It helped to reduce the irritation from shaving with a poor tool. I haven't needed it since I made the switch to proper wet shaving but I still rub it on my head after a head shave (kind of like an aftershave/moisturizer. It makes my head smooth and shiny and reduces the appearance of red bumps after a day or so with a light application each morning.
