Penhaligons Endymion is probably my favourite of the olde worlde scents. Trumpers Spanish Leather is also very good.
I think it's highly up to personal taste. Some ladies like this and some like that and some don't. To be sure, you just have to try it with the lady of your choice.
Whatever you use, just do not use it too much.
I have l'Occitane and cheap Blue Stratos aftershaves but i use them only rarely. Rather only water. I've never heard the lady of my choice complain.

SWMBO and my daughter have said that they like the Truefit and Hill Spanish Leather.
I think it is more important that you like the cologne or aftershave. After all, you will be the one who has to wear it.

I get a lot of compliments from the ladies at work (my wife doesn't have a sense of smell) from plain old Pinaud Clubman. I think too many people are skeptical because of the low price, but I personally couldn't imagine using anything else. I love it.
My girlfriend loves the smell of Proraso.

My fiance got me a mens aftershave from victoria secret.
It's called very sexy and it's the only one I use. They also have the scent in a cologne which I have been using for years.
If you have one near you I would go and try it. What harm could it do?

I get compliments from my girlfriend and many random girls/ladies at work when I wear Booster "mosswood" aftershave, a plus side is it tends too linger on your face too, as other aftershaves do not last that long
If moneys no object got to say go with a classic Creed's Green Irish Tweed. Not the swill sold on amazon or ebay buy it at a higher class department store like Macys. It was created way back in the dark ages for an actor named Carry Grant
There is only one smell that has been proven to drop panties and that is Acqua Di Gio by giorgio armani. you can get a gift set for like $60 but just the after shave balm is like 45. i have been using it for the last 9 years and every gf has loved it.
I get compliments from Acqua di Gio and Chanel Bleu, but have also had them for Old Spice. Personally I like Old Spice the best.
it's hard to beat a classic.

Are we talking after shaves or colognes?
If colognes are what u are considering buying then I would go with Thierry Muglars "cologne" or " angel" also Bath and body works makes a cologne called " NOIR" that I always get compliments on. Also as amazing as Acqua di Gio is , just about every guy wears that cologne ( its been in the top 5 colognes for eva) and u dont want to be like every other guy. ( no offense to anyone that wears it, I own it and wear it on occasion) Jean Paul Gaultiers "le male" is awesome too.

Aqua Velva or Ogallala Bay Rum w/Lime & Peppercorns
Aqua di Gio is what I wore in my younger single days. For some reason women love that smell, ergo i loved that smell.
