Gentlemen:
Are you aware of a Website called www.microperfumes.com ? They sell sample vials and travel spray sizes of high end colognes. So they are a fraction of the cost of a full size bottle, and you can decide if you like them before investing in a large size bottle.
I just ordered a travel size of Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver rom them, travel spray size, for only $34. You can get a sample vial for $7.50. Just an FYI. May come in handy for you when you are contemplating a new fragrance. SEE HERE

Thanked: 581Yes, decants and smaller sample-sized vials are definitely the way to go, before/instead-of springing for a full bottle. I used to buy 10ml decants of fragrances, but that was still expensive -- after all, the companies are in it to make a profit, and the cost of vials and labor-intensive transfer of product, plus the cost of the fragrances, themselves, adds-up.
My solution? Look-for and purchase multiple 1.5-2.0ml manufacturers' samples, then decant them into a larger vial/bottle. I've done this with about ten different fragrances, and I end-up saving money.
- Buying ten to twenty 1.5ml samples + a 20-30ml bottle is much less expensive than buying a full 100ml bottle (and the days of 30/50ml bottles seems to be over, except for ungodly-expensive niche fragrances).
- If I like the fragrance, I can always find more samples to replenish the decant bottle.
- With manufacturer's samples, there's no worry about "fake" fragrances.
Here's a photo of mine, to give you a better idea (the middle bottle is 20ml, the rest are 30ml):
A box of eight 30ml bottles costs $19 from Amazon; a pack of funnels and pipettes is ~$10. DIY bottling is something to consider. I'll be glad to share what I've learned.I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I did Vetiver Friday (just to be different) on the SOTD. At present, the only Vetiver cologne I have is the Cremo Vetiver and Smoked Bourbon Distiller's Blend. Very nice indeed, but not pure Vetiver.

It is good entrepreneurship that someone started a company like microperfumes.com to sell samples. 8 bucks a vial for a sample you can usually get for free is a good del for them. 35 bucks for a small travel sprayer that it looks like they make themselves is an even better deal.
I orderd the travel size Tom Ford Grey Vetiver in the travel size at $35. Better than $150 for a full size bottle."I get some lather and lather-up, then I get my razor and shave! Zip Zop, see that? My face Is ripped to shreads!"
