Do you think Tom Ford is worth it, I've tried a few samples, only one of which I really like, Tabacco Vanille. From a value viewpoint they seem to be extremely overpriced for what they are.

I have thought the same about a lot of aftershaves and colognes. $400 for 4 ounces of Creed?
Dior Savage ASB and EdT
Some yes some no. I also rarely pay full price. I am part of a fragrance group on face book and generally can get for around 2/3 the price.
Clones are another ball game all together. In the air they can smell very similar but up closer is usually easily picked. I wear fragrance for myself so having a synthetic clone or rich vibrant original can make it worth while. Again dont pay full price which helps yo justify it.
I would also say with more exposure to various fragrance you developed a better nose and can start telling the difference between them more. What was these are very similar is now not even close
2/3 the price would make it a little more palatable but I still cant understand how the ingredients to make the fragrance costs that much. There are plenty of top tier fragrance houses that cost half of what Tom Ford and Creed does.
Still I can understand that some people can distinguish the different scents that make up the fragrance.

Is a lot like any hobby or shaving even. Starting out for razor, brush, soap and strop was an outlay you are very conscious of. Next thing is a $300 Kanayama strop, Japanese natural stone, shavemac brush and custom razor. Can still have a great shave with what you started with but it no longer seems adequate.
