Love the Bismarck Ges Geschutzt... shaved with it this morning after a few licks on CrOx strop and a few dozen more on leather. I wander between narrow and broad blades but whenever I reach for the Bismarck I always think it's my favorite. It's light in the hand, sharpens easily and the draw is very smooth, never harsh, after stropping. Although I am a fan of three-pin razors it's solid enough to claim quality stability. It shaves like one of those invisible blades. An ebay find, the price was fair for a premium boxed razor in like-new condition. Nothing not to like.

This was a present from my wife for Christmas.

Mine should be here tomorrow, my girlfriend bought me one because she said it was beautiful ! I'll post picture tomorrow ( hopefully ) !
Very nice! Are you getting a new Dovo one or a vintage?
I picked up another 5/8 vintage one last week. I still have to photograph it. It took a little bread-knifing to get it near correct. It has a fair bit of toe wear.
I actually have 2 new Dovo's on there way - Encina Stainless 6/8" and a Bismarck Pearl 6/8" ! Girlfriend bought me the Bismarck - she said it was absolutely beautiful, and I couldn't agree more with her ! ;-)
Very nice!!!
I like my Dovo, Your going to need to use a layer of tape when you hone it, And depending on how soft your strop is you might want to use a layer of tape to protect the strop from the filed spine.
This is the new vintage.

I have a 3" red latigo (a lot of draw) and a SRD Premium I (on its way) ! Should I tape the spine ? I definitely don't want to mark it up ! Should I use electrical tape or that lite tan painters tape ?
The SRD Premium I is also 3"
Thank you so much for the info ! I used my new Ralf Aust 5/8" this morning and OMG what an awesome shave, I am so addicted ! Don't they make a solution to make your beard grow so I can shave again today ! LOL
That razor is BEAUTIFUL ! ^
yeah just 1 layer, till you get the hang of the spine, Those file marks can have sharp corners, and it would be a shame to mark a good strop.
The tape itself doesn't matter. You'll see when you get it that at the wrong angle they have a fair bit of an edge to them :D The gold wash is good on the dovo, so your not going to damage it with the tape.
The other thing I have to watch on my dovo is the bottom of the tang under the pin. There is a little spot that sits inside the scales that likes to get a rust spot.
OK - THANK YOU SO MUCH ! I have razor oil, I will be very careful !
This is all 3 together, I'm going to ask a mod if they can edit the first picture to use this image. It looks a lot better than that blurry dirty image that's there atm.

Absolutely beautiful !
My Bismarck after the damaged, melted edge of the one of the plastic scales was replaced in blonde horn. The old scales were the plastic ones with the inlay, not the nice wooden ones in the other models.

Attachment 157485Using my Bismarck today !
I have noticed a Dovo that is very similar to the Bismarck. In fact identical bar a few cosmetic differences.
Dovo ‘La Forme’ razor
From what I can see it is the Bismarck without the tang stamp, Gold wash, and file work. I'm going to see if I can pick one up at some point this year for a comparison. It's also a little cheaper.

Those scales are original Phrank, There is a red scale with MOP inlay, Black with MOP inlay, Fully black, And fully MOP. There may be others as well as Dovo seem to like adding minor revisions to this razor.
Your horn scales look pretty fantastic as well Phrank.
Who did those for you?
Thanks Iceni! I did not know that, the originals on mine were black with MOP inlay, unfortunately the end of one of the scales near the pivot was somehow partially melted by the previous owner....great blade though!
Yes, the other Dovo looks like the Bismarck.
And Valery at the Gentleman's Den did the scales...
What's MOP ? I just recently bought mine from SRD, it said my scales were plastic but look like pearl ! They look nice !
Ah, yes I have plastic MOP ! LOL
It's a beautiful razor, it is a little awkward stropping it though ! The way the shank is, it's different than my other razors and is just a little awkward stropping !
Here a few Pics of my current Bismarck Razors :)

My Bismarck, Have not restored it yet just a quick sand and then I decided to descale it now waiting for my tumbler to arrive

Looks to be in good shape. It should clean up and shave very well :D
The patina doesn't look too deep I would give it a quick polish with something like Autosol or mothers and see what it looks like before you think about stripping it. Chances are it'll come straight up to a nice finish without needing to be fully restored.
That's fair enough then, It should clean up well.
Am I right in thinking you have a 5/8 model.
Just checked my 5/8 it has a fair bit of toe wear and get's honed on 2 layers of tape.
The 6/8 and 7/8 in my collection are only done on 1 layer.
Yours looks to have far less wear and can probably be done on 1 layer of tape.
I'll soon be up to 5 of 7 Bismarcks.
I've got some images of the 7/8 to go up today, and I just won an auction for a Bismarck super.
So far the set is looking like.
5/8 registered
6/8 registered
7/8 German hollow number 500
6/8 Dovo ebony
5 or 6/8 Bismarck super number 11.
Not sure what I'm going to dig up for the last 2! So far all are boxed and I think I should keep that trend up.
So pictures of the 7/8 number 500!

Here's a recent addition, my first vintage Bismarck. Since these pics were taken I've only washed, sterilized and honed it. Love the shaves do far!
You should love the shaves. To my eye that looks like a Fritz Bracht era Dovo production.
It's a very nice blade and looks to be a lot thinner than the modern productions. Should be a superb shaver.
