Would love to travel there and see it!

Why don't you? Solingen is just an hour and a half away, too. Horse's mouth and all that. And both cities are equally impressive in their own way.
A late Christmas present to myself. I've had this a few days now. Upon receiving it, it was a very impressive razor. The finish on it is really outstanding. There are no clumsy spots. The horn is polished to a mirror finish, inside washers, and upper and lower jimps. I asked that it not be honed as I would prefer to do that myself. The factory edge was quite good, definitely shave ready. But I prefer my edges really polished. And this took a fantastic edge. The bevel was very consistent across the blade and it made great contact with the stone. Finally today I used it. Great shave, great edge. The edge was very fine but not the least bit harsh. It was not cheap but it delivered in quality.

I have one very similar to yours. It is a great shaver. You will enjoy this blade.
Really getting curious about trying one of these. I've got so many razors and sadly, only one face with which to share them, that I keep telling myself No.
I'll probably cave in sooner or later. I like the smaller razors, and the 5/8 is certainly affordable.
I've got a new 5/8 coming to me by way of SRD i ordered yesterday. A late christmas gift to myself. Had a few SR I was going back and forth on but I kept hearing from folks how much they enjoyed shaving with their RA. To say i am excited is ad understatement. I keep checking my email and SRDs website to see if it shipped yet but I have to tell myself to be patient you only ordered it yesterday:rofl2:.

My small collection so far.
Clockwise starting top left:
6/8 Round Point - Horn
5/8 Round Point - Black Synthetic (My first new razor)
6/8 Spanish Point Stainless - African Blackwood
7/8 Round Point with Schorkopf - African Blackwood
Welcome to SRP CraigG. Nice first post...You like the RA then.
Just spent my long weekend doin heavy research on straights, with the object being a purchase. Happy to say that SRD won out, with the RA 6/8 Spanish point, in African Blackwood. Also picked up the standard length 3" English bridle leather/hard felt strop. I had a Dovo/Inox in ebony, 'bout a year and a half ago. Used it a few times, and had to liquidate my shinier, easier selling items, do to a family thing. This one ain't leavin'.
So, pics to come, upon arrival, and all that. I've got the SRD pic, off of the net, but don't want to step on any toes. I won't post it without the mods, or someone, giving the O.K. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for the big day, to get some pics up. Soap and foo-foo is fun, and DE's are great. Brushes are mesmerizing in their choices. But, for straight-up sexy, it's the straights that get me, every time.
What the heck is wrong with me?
P.S. Is this considered qualification? Is there an initiation? I won't have to dry shave, while standing on my head, or anything, will I?:w
This is my sixth Ralph aust I absolutely love his razors.Attachment 224707
I sure do for a new razor there nicely made with nice feel to them. I literally own just RA now and some new Boker razors that are also nice .

Every Shave Den needs at least one RA...
7/8 American Point...

Four or five shaves in, and this is an impressive razor. That Spanish point is, I think, going to be a very useful feature, once I've gained enough experience to make it an asset. I keep seeing pics of a RA razor floating around the net, with micarta scales. That, with a stainless blade, might be my first made to order.
Currently, this is what my shave setup looks like. It's all holiday swag, and I'm liking it all. The Kent KB8 Silver Tip is my first badger, and just seems to fit with such a fine straight razor. The SJoL product is, in all honesty, more about the scent than anything. Think this'll be my signiture scent. It's forcing me to get used to using a cream, instead of my soaps.

But the point of this post is the Ralph Aust. A 6/8 Spanish point, African Blackwood scales, impressively precise etching on a mirror polished, beautifully finished blade. The gimping style is perfect, IMHO. I can certainly see what you guys all see in this brand. I'll be wanting more of these. Now, all I need is the skill to get the most out of this pretty little thing. I'm working on it.
Cheers, everyone!

Ralp aust 5/8 square point, scales bocote. Nicely balanced razor. Pictured in the back ground is a thater brush, got to be the best brush out there, 5 years old and still like new.
If I had to pick one razor to live with it very well would be the Ralf Aust or even a close second a Revisor. They are almost tied nose to nose. The RA razors are truly something special and reason I have more than one.
One of—if not the most—cleanest, safest, most expensive cities in all of Europe. I'd always spend the day in Vienna first, before making my way to Budapest—one of the dirtiest, most dangerous cities—if you're getting around the city by train—cheapest—save for its Balkans neighbors—in all of Europe.
Vienna also plays host to one of the greatest Asian restaurants I've ever been to—more so during the winter months when it'll serve Murauer Bock beer. Who knew? Old school Austrian Bock beer goes extremely well with fine Asian cuisine.
Having both as well, I agree that its really tough separating them. The particular RA that I have is much more polished and luxurious than the Revisors I have. I think RA offers more luxurious options than Revisor. But they both take exceptionally nice edges. I think it comes down to cosmetic preferences.
Awesome, I never realized we have a club.[emoji106]

Are those the scales the razor came with, or did you or someone else have that done?
I got a Ralf Aust for my first straight razor—gauging other's experiences with them on this forum. It's just got some black scales and is rounded—which is fine for what it is. I do like yours though, especially the scales.
Added this RA French Point with Snakewood Scales to the group (up to 5 RA now and my RAD has been cured... well, at least for now).

If you had Phoenix51, I would have purchased this one:
6/8" Rasiermesser mit französischem Kopf und Bismarck-Klinge
In fact, it is still in my "cart"... But I am quite happy that I got this one!
got my first Ralf Aust in the mail today.

Blackgold, I really love this razor. I was a little suprised at the "6/8" measure though. It measures 6/8 to where the spine would rest on the hone. . . But the amount of metal above that makes the total measure a solid 7/8
I've been looking at a lot of razors to get started in straight razor shaving. I've decided when I get the extra cash to get an aust razor!! All of these razors look awesome and I've heard nothing but good things about them!!!
Wow, that shoulderless razor in the horn scales is one of the most beautiful razors I've ever seen!
Anyone that can make the comparison of the non-stainless vs the stainless ralf aust razors?
You choose well CavCon, fine blade and blond horn, great combination; enjoy shaving with your straight!
This Ralph Aust arrived yesterday from srd. Ebony scales with silver inlays. 6/8 shoulderless blade with Spanish point and worked spine. In real life this razor is a beauty the inlays are made perfect the balance of the razor is as nice as it gets. I,m no stranger to Ralph aust razors there all very nice including this one that I have to say is most likely my favourite . I brought this from straight razor designs, the razor came shave ready. Very quik dispatch and exallant service.Attachment 238411Attachment 238412Attachment 238413Attachment 238414Attachment 238411Attachment 238412Attachment 238413Attachment 238414
That looks amazing!!! I really like the look of every Ralph aust that I've seen!!
I really like these Ralf Aust 6/8 blades. Aust, Dovo, Revisor, and Wacker use the same blanks, but only the Aust and Revisor razors actually deliver.
But yes, Mr Aust's first name is Ralf, not Ralph. ;)
