Guys, these are some impressive razors. Some uncommon, and very pleasing, designs. Fascinating thread

Here's one I have.
No #s , But definitely a W&B stamp, and design.
First pic is with the W&B, for comparison. The W&B is stamped on the tail, with a #3.

Oh, excellent, Mike! The old Sheffields that have anything out there way at the end of the tail are unusual to find, and probably later (1880's ->)
Your Gilchrist looks like it's been worked on. There's a bit of grinding at the shoulder, and it's entirely possible that the point was changed (sometimes the little tabbed bit on a big barber's notch like that can get broken off). Definitely rescaled.
The lack of numbers on the Gilchrist means, most likely, earlier. 1850-'53, I think.
Thanks, Zack. I've had that thought in my head about it being reworked. I didn't do anymore than hit it with metal polish. And I knew the scales had been replaced..bummer.
But she's got a great lil wee bevel, and shaves a treat.
Wonderful thread, collection and examples. Thanks V for the starting the thread! Very unique. I hope to have the good fortune of running across a specimen or two someday.
I used to have this one. Maybe I still do somewhere...

Seems like quite the artistic family. Any relation to the modern day Luthier?
Just picked this up, a Wm Gilchrist, Jersey City No. 12. This is similar to the other No. 12 posted in this thread but has a different tang mark with the Wade & Butcher Bow. This is as found from an Indiana estate razor collector. Know Voidmonster will be pleased to see this old razor. Not sure what I will do with it yet. Just arrived today with eight others in original state. Researching all, fun stuff! Attachment 327912Attachment 327913Attachment 327914Attachment 327915
