I like it very much. I guess this is one of the smaller Rodgers razors, but I like it. It is very light and easy to handle. I actually got off the classifieds here. Good price as well. It is supposed to have belonged to a barber in Texas who used to shave Jimmy Hoffa. Whether or not this is true or just a story is not so important.. It's still a nice anecdote :D

I may never hone this up as I like it as is, I think ole George died in the late 1820's and was a brother to Joepseh and Maurice. The tang has 16 Norfolk Street and a WR warrent
Hi all,
Had to add my recently acquired pre 1900 Joseph Rodgers 'dreadnought', a beautiful big razor in fantastic condition, it only needs a little polishing and a hone (it only has >1mm hone wear!)
Has one issue when closed however, the toe of the blade sticks out beyond the scales, even though they appear to be the original horn. Any ideas on a fix for that??

Maby try a third pin in it to hold the tang up and keep the toe from showing through. Its a nice razor though, cograts.

Here is my entry, a 7/8 Rodgers wedge that says 'Military Razor' on the blade. I don't know if the blade marking is original or not - I have not seen a similar one. Hopefully will get round to restoring her. Ivory scales on her are perfect.

I think I've figured out why the toe of this razor sticks out of the scales so much - It was likely reground from a wedge long ago by someone very experienced! - Shame he didnt sort the scales at the time... oh well more new ones to make!Quote:

Hi Jimmy, better put your socks back on and check out the pair I posted before the 7 day set. I can't quit looking at'em myself! Just kills me not to be able to describe them "completely" without being slapped on the wrist. Then again, it's the administration's world, I'm just passin' through it!

And what interestingly, on the tangs "Cutlers To Their Majesties", on the other side of the box "Cutlers to Her Majesty". Year ago, we discussed on the forum about "Her Majesty" on the blades.
Interesting. I've read about this as well, but have not encountered a razor set's case with markings that didn't match the tang stamp. I'm guessing your set is not marked "England"?

This one is being brought back to life the Ivory scales are cracked so will be rescaled in blonde horn I'll post the pic's when I get it back.

These 2 are waiting restoration. They have bone scales I'm planning on having the rescaled with camel bone because the marks and stains will not polish out.
These are some interesting razors.
I have a "Jolly Rodger", that is marked The Celebrated on the blade. I believe it is from about 1850-1870, but could be off. I know that it has been in the family since at least 1900. Any information would be very helpful in dating it.

Looks like wood, or perhaps horn?
+1, it's hard to say with the pics provided. Anything traits that would point to one of the other is not visible in the pics. With the redish areas and 'grain' directions in the pics I would tend to guess at horn but that would only be a guess.Quote:

upon further inspection I believe it to be horn. Any JR historians here? Why would it not have the star and cross mark? It only has the crown with V R under it.

Newbie here - I just did an intro and figured THIS was the right place to ask my question!
This is a razor I inherited from my grandfather. He fought in the European Theater during WW2. I once read a snippet that during the war - the Queen of England gave the US troops a Christmas present - a shaving kit that included a bone handled straight razor. I often wondered if my grandfathers razor could have been from that shaving kit. I've never read anything else printed on the subject and can't remember the reference book as it's been over 30 years since I read it.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
