Hi all!
I've been looking around for a straight razor for myself as I wanted to take it up. I was about to purchase a new one online when my grandfather found out and went looking for his father's razor.
He just gave it to me this weekend:

It came still in the box, making this pretty easy to identify.

Unfortunately, as you can see in a couple of the images, there was some rust (and a nick out of it) on the end -- my grandfather tried to gently remove this with 400-grit sandpaper. The scales seem to have come apart at the end, still solid at the pivot though. I'd like to use this as my regular shaver so I'll be looking into how to restore some of the former glory.
As for the history, I believe my great-grandfather bought this new and used it until his old age when he switched to a safety razor. It's lived in South Africa with my grandfather who just used an electric, and in the past couple years come to Canada packed away somewhere.

Had my first shave with that beauty I'd picked up from a antique shop last week a few days ago and I must say it was awesome absolutly loved it.
I picked up a 2nd that has cream plastic scales and etching on the blade I will be sending them both out for some work moving the real ivory scales of this onto the other and then having some custom scales added to this and I can't decide if I want a mirror finish or just a nice clean up what do you guys think?
well i guess i can join the band of brothers....this bengall is just crazy. it was bought and put away till today. the only time it was ever pulled out of the box over all those years was to be oiled and thats it. this razor is absoluetly mind condition!! here she is :)

I have had this razor for a quite a while now with the intention of making it like-new pretty by polishing the blade out and then re-blue the tang. With a lack of materials and knowledge combined with eagerness I decided to just hone it up anyway this afternoon and finish the restoration once I have some pinning materials and the right blueing product.
I have not got any before shots but it had a very nasty 'S' frown that I had to get out which took a while :( The good news is that once it was out, it honed up very easy.
Shaves like only a Bengall can
