Yup. That's the way to do it! Thumb your nose at other's expectations, lay down a couple bucks, and receive the same quality shave others get for $125! Mine could use a little restoration, but hey, it has a wicked edge and the scales polished up nicely. Put some polish on the brass, touch up the blade and enjoy. (not to diminish the value of those shown on this thread, of course!)
Here is an update on my ugly duckling. Honed out the lopsidedness on the blade and honed it up. It shaves real nice, just need to finish cleaning the whole thing up a bit when I get bored again. Attachment 111423

I didn't pay a lot for the Dubl Ducks I have. One from a barber's daughter and a couple from ebay in good shape for fairly cheap.Quote:

Pretty cool! Here's my first Duck: a Satin Wedge 5/8" quarter hollow. Have yet to shave with it and not even sure I'll keep it at this point, as I'm finding that I prefer full-hollows... I wish it had it's original scales, but the price was right! It was restored and scaled in blonde horn, with nickel silver pins and washers with brass pivot washers and what looks like a micarta wedge, before I got it. Gonna try it tomorrow with some Truefitt & Hill 1805...

I haven't touched mine yet ! After cleaning up all the ducks I did some close up inspections and found the older ones had some frown to the them. Not much but enough to keep from hone/testing. I have A norton 4/8k I have used with surprising success and am thinking I might start learning more restore skills and acquiring more tools. This forum has been a great help and I might have gone crazy if I hadn't found it. The razors in picture above are on a rubber coated work bench I made just for new e-bay arrivals. My picture is in there with the definition of RAD. :<0) .

Yep I said that too. One LOL. Then one of each. Then I find out the list never ends. Now I am down to just the ones I never seen before, which so far is one a month.
only got one duck 6/8 WE . shaves like a dream, want more ducks now..
