Yeah, those are the original scales of the razor, and the black blade finish is probably original too, not rusted from age (well there's plenty of rust on that ugly bevel, but other than that). There may be a picture earlier in this thread of mine, if not it's in the razor database in the library.Quote:

But that's what collecting stuff is, I guess. The scales are more prone to deterioration than the blade, so there are a bunch of people with decent blades and bad scales wanting to rectify that issue, so most of the value of these is indeed in the scales, not the blades, again consistent with collection, not shaving.
You may find a seller who isn't aware of that trend and puts his own price instead of playing the market, and then you could get one cheap. Keep looking, may be you should start drinking more water before going to bed so that you can get up more at night :)
The price varies all over the place. I'm talking e-Bay and in the wild. If you have to pick one over the other look for the best blade. A great blade is the rare part. Scales come along and all you need is good brass from them :<0) If you see one on the Bay NOS or near mint, there will be a war.
Gugi and I have 2 separate trains of thought here. But the idea is the same.

Oh, one more thing on the green scales - remember we're talking 1930s here i.e. art deco, green marble (even if it's celluloid imitation) that kind of stuff - it is exactly what you'd expect from the times. They're trying to create contemporary appeal to the razor. You'll see them in person soon enough :)

Thanks guys...thought I'd hit the Duck jackpot...but I'm more of a Sheffield guy, hold the patina :D...so this blade will get it's own razor sock and sit in the the storage chest...glad you told me about the black of the blade though, would not have been smart to have tried to remove that thinking it's dirt and rust...when I get it I'll post some better pics...again....thanks for the help.Quote:
