I feel is is the number for the set on that particular day/time. We must remember that this is before Henry Ford's T and interchangable parts. Every set was fitted individually, by hand!

Unfortunately, I don't have any vintage advertisements from that time (1820s etc.). But I'll try to find.
My Silver Steel Butchers. Need some help dating them. The pictures don't do them justice. They have oil on them at the moment as well. http://img.tapatalk.com/ad3fb993-f507-4227.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/ad3fb993-f565-0c44.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/ad3fb993-f59a-8332.jpg
Edit to my last post. It's Fine India Steel not Silver Steel...late night post :)
Jon(ZeroCool), according several sources, razors with such stamps/slogans like "The Celebrated Fine India Steel Razor" are dating about 1850.
I just pulled the trigger on this set. Photos of a more revealing quality posted upon arrival.
Can't wait to see if this gamble works out.

This thread has given me a mutated case of RAD... RED (Razor Envy Disorder).
Beautiful sets, folks.
I've recently bought this only for my travel :
a easy and light 5/8" with simple round point, product in Solingen by Artur Lambrecht of Hamburg (?) but with silversteel of Kayser Ellison & Co. (so engraved in the shank)

I'll add a pair of MOPS Keen Cutters. The scales pass the "click" and pin test.
They may be new blades in an old set, the box is very old. We had a lot of Scandinavians around this area. They had gorgeous scales on their razors. I came upon these by accident. All the good ones, the dealers say, are gone.

Cheers!
I posted these a while ago in Show and Tell, but thought I'd post over here. The most cash I've outlaid in one transaction for razors, but man I love em! Joseph Rodgers 4 day set in ivory.
Attachment 143584Attachment 143585
Those are amazing! :tu
Rodgers are wonderful blades and style to the max! I was only able to get 5 of 7 on a really good day in the boonies. They do shave a treat! I use the one with the common problem of a wedge end cracked back scale in my rotation. The Scandahoovians really had nice shave gear.
