I feel is is the number for the set on that particular day/time. We must remember that this is before Henry Ford's T and interchangable parts. Every set was fitted individually, by hand!

Jon(ZeroCool), according several sources, razors with such stamps/slogans like "The Celebrated Fine India Steel Razor" are dating about 1850.
I just pulled the trigger on this set. Photos of a more revealing quality posted upon arrival.
Can't wait to see if this gamble works out.
