They are also listed in Sheffield: Printed by J. Montgomery, in the Hartshead, for John Robinson, Spring-street, 1797

What I see as the 1801 listing is their silver mark.

I did have a source and forgot about it. Referred to as Harwood & Co in The Universal British Directory of Trade, Commerce, and Manufacture, volume four, presumed to have been published 1795-1798.

Seems like the evidence is suggesting that Harwood and Co existed as a business prior to 1800. It appears, however, that pinpointing a manufacture date for the Harwood pictured at the beginning of this thread is near impossible. Generally, is the blade shape indicative of the period before or after the turn of the century?

The styles tended to overlap a good amount, and there was a lot of change occurring in styles at the turn of the century, so you really can't pinpoint even that based on the style alone given that it probably sits on the edge.

Dear all, I have a razor that may qualify to post here, the blade is stamped with what looks like an "f" below which are GR with the G nearly worn away. The tang is stamped G.REVIL, I don't know anything about it I'm afraid.

Really nice razor. Looks like Revit. Yes 1790's to early 1800's I'd guess. Where did you find that? Oh welcome to the forum.

Hi Hacker, thanks for the welcome.. I just found it on eBay. It's stamped REVIL not REVIT I'm pretty sure due to the "foot" on the bottom of the last letter.

I actually bid against you on that one. Yes it belongs here and is probably older than you think.

Here's another old razor that may qualify for this club... I think it may be a John Lindley, it has a Pipe trademark & a dart or fler de lays looking smaller stamp. The wood handle is very clean, the thing I love about this razor is the heavy fold line that you can see in the blade from forging, it's not a crack. The blade has a sort of "chamfer" on the face edge of the toe as well as the dip toe.

Definitely 18th C.,

I'm pretty sure this razor is from "father George Revil", older then 1790, maybe 1760-1775
