I ran across this thread last night. Some very nice steel in these posts. I have one to add. I got this TI 14 from Ertan Suer at Rasoir Sabre France. He told me it had laid for decades in the back of a drawer in a Thier's cutlery shop. No box, broken scales. He rescaled it in blond horn and sold it as used, although it had no wear on it when I got it. I prefer a 5/8, but this is fun when it comes up in rotation. Glen put a real nice edge on it, much better than the coticule edge I had managed. Now for the pictures...

I'm guessing date of manufacture would have a large impact on that!

Thanks Shaun, I don't even need a real answer now. I'll take laughter over knowledge.

Quality of steel, for one. I don't mean better; it was a different composition back then. I tend to think my Filarmonicas have a softer steel, less brittle. It takes a edge quickly, very sharp.

Pre-1950 versions will NOT have "FABRICACION ESPAÑOLA / MADE IN SPAIN" stamped on the rear of the tang this is a must, I also think very plain scales without the Lyre harp is another good pointer but not always the very early pre 1950s Especial have a solid metal Lyre the scales are of a much higher quality than the later models.

Phrank, the bellied hollow on the Palmera is no myth. Although not as pronounced as the photo you put up, it is there. You should be able to feel it, barely visible. Pixelfixed mentioned it many times, he had at least 7 at one stage. His description...8/8+ extream bellied hollows...here. Spelling as original to confirm it was Pixelfixed...:)
Would be interesting to know if the Fillis are bellied at all.
