Mappin and Webb - shave ready.
Mappin and Webb - shave ready.
The blade measures 17.9mm which makes it a little over 6/8 in size.
The grind to my eye looks to be a near wedge.
I'm not sure if the scales are original to the blade. They look to be a fraction long. Anyway, they are dark horn with a pewter or lead wedge.
In my opinion one of the top tier razor makers. The company was founded in 1775 and is still going today. It became Mappin and Webb in 1868 (previously Mappin Bros and then Mappin & Co).
I'd date this razor to around 1870.
The razor honed on a progression of Shapton Ceramic Pro stones (1k, 2k, 5k, 8k and 12k).
Price is $110 which includes tracked and insured internal postage to anywhere in the world
