Deployment
Hey all ! I have just found out that I will be deploying to Afghanistan in may with that I will be away from home a lot prepping for deployment. I have all the main supplies strop brush razor soap. I am in need of recommendations of longer term supplies to keep my razor in top shape for six to nine months in the mountains/ the 'Stan ?

First of all thanks for your service. May your sacrifice be small and your safe return rapid.
Maybe a barbers hone ? Small good for touch ups and easy to pack.

This was my thought after looking online , I was unsure . I am hoping my first shave will be Tuesday or Wednesday, an amazing member here was able to hook me up with a shave ready razor. I am hoping to take two or three with me to rotate and keep touch up small , as I can not be sure I will have Internet or anyway to order stuff wile I am over the pond. And carrying a nine month supply a larger task than at first glance.

As said above Thank You for your service. I would recommend a few pucks of shave soap and a stainless bowl with a lid, to keep the sand out!

I don't usually use a bowl, I face lather. Here's a decent looking set for cheap. I don't have any experience with these in particular though.
Maybe a camping store would have a steel mug with a lid?

If you take 3 razors you may not even need a hone. Learn as much as you can about that strop and also the hone, if you get 1, before you go. Download some tuts to your phone or put them on a cd if you are able to take that sort of thing with you. Then in your down time you can practice 'till you get it right :<0)

I concur with taking an extra razor and foregoing a hone for now. For the price of a Swatty or a barber hone, you can get a shave ready 2nd razor. Learn to strop now and take the strop with you, and between the 2 razors, you'll probably make it 6 months just fine. That is unless you flub your stropping and dull the edge. Besides, you're not going to have time to learn honing before you go anyway.

I concur with you on learning to hone seeing as my first sr shave will be hopefully Wednesday
