Double Duck Wonderedge Question

Was at this local antique / vintage store, they occasionally have SR's. The ladies don't really know much about SR's, just enough to overcharge on anything in their store.

Anyhow - lo and behold, there is a DD Wonderedge 6/8, the stamp was dubl (then two ducks) duck, and underneath Wonderedge underlined. The scales are cream coloured, there is the Wonderedge written on the side of the scales, and the metal DD logo on the end of the razor.

Looks great, but what puzzles me is that it only has two pins? Virtually every DD wonder, satin, or gold has three pins that I've seen.

Any help would be appreciated.

A 6/8 Wonderedge is not common IME. If it is in good condition, and they aren't asking a ridiculous price for it, I would buy it. Whether the scales are original or not, if the blade is in good shape, you'll have a real good shaver. I must add though, I like the other ducks better than the Wonderedge. The steel in those is hardened differently, is harder to hone IME, and I'd take a Goldedge or a special over the WE anytime. YMMV.

Just take a look on Eboy at the asking prices for a Wonderedge and you'll see what they are worth.

Could be an Early or Late production run, that didn't use the "Cracked Ice" scales, :shrug:

Does the tang have the circles decorating it around the Wonderedge mfg stamping ? If it is in as good a shape as the one in the pic, and they don't want your eye teeth, I'd get it.

Ever since that thread of a DD going for $450, doesn't seem you can go wrong! Unless ofcourse, another becomes the fad !?!

may be the picture but I don't see the patterns on the razor. The scales are strange.

If you go back to the shop to buy it don't forget that its not a real retail fixed price operation. Most of their goods are on assignment from many different people. If you feel the price is too high ask
the shop owner to contact the seller and make an offer. They will counter with a price probably half way between their original and your price. If you like it, take it! If not keep countering or walk away. They overprice most things because they expect counter offers. I was in my local antique shop the other day and found an old, still usable strop. I had seen similar on eBay and knew it was overpriced. I offered a few dollars over 1/2 of the asking price. Shop owner called person who counted w only two dollars over my price. I took it and still saved about $15 over what eBay was asking in a buy now listing.

It never wrong to ask for a lower price. Its a game most people like to play.

Thanks - tried it with this woman.

She knows her shop is in a very trendy area, and her response to anyone offering anything different on the item is, "No!". I got a really nice Boker King Cutter, in great shape, for $20, yet for an old, nice but run of the mill DOVO, she wanted $80...see, she'd heard of DOVO before.

I put some cash down to hold it, for being a bit of a curmudgeon, she is fairly nice, told her I'd be back next week.

Just can't figure out the two pins only on the DD!?!

Don't worry about the third pin. I doubt anyone is counterfeiting dubl duck wonderedges yet. It has the logos inlaid in the scales and with the circles, if it is in good shape it is cool. As long as she doesn't want an arm and a leg. ..... :p

Don't you just love greedy people with little knowledge? I find that type of attitude more than irritating. For me it borders on snobbishness and avarice. If you wait long enough her need to accumulate cash might make her bring the price down. And in my experience, being in a trendy area with that kind of attitude usually lead to a going out of business sale.
