Wilkinson Straight Box

Greetings - just got this Wilkinson Vintage Straight Razor Box Set, supposed to have 3 razors, one is missing.

Trying to determine age of this set, vintage seems to mean many things.

Any ideas would be appreciated:

Any ideas for the Wilkinson Pall Mall Straight razor, found some info in the forums Wiki, but have little else.

Would appreciate any info on the W Pall Mall razor?

I was hoping there was more info. I too have one of these. Mine was part of a set as well and has the number 3 on the back of the blade.

So you would have the third razor for that set...interesting. I got this set 3 years or so ago....

I actually wrote Wilkinson a couple of years ago and sent them pics and mentioned this - they have absolutely no records of their razors, they thought it was absolutely fascinating, obviously a part of their history, but they didn't really have any info.

I figure the razors are from 1900's, and I'll have to check mine again as I don't remember if they are numbered.

Ha!!

Those are the one's...I have 1 and 2 downstairs in the original "gentleman" set case....fascinating...now there's a needle in a haystack!!

Wilkinson started making what we know as straight razors in 1890. That said the firm came out with its first safety razor in 1896, from there on seems like it was mainly developping the safety razor scene. Somewhat of a short lived straight razor fabrication im assuming. Furthermore i do see straight razor advertise in very early 1900's

Wow, so together we have a complete set! These are rare enough on their own, let alone a full set. Pretty neat!

Same here - not much history on them other then what Martin found and this.

A SHORT HISTORY OF WILKINSON SWORD
The Wilkinson Sword Co. Ltd., was officially founded in 1887, the legacy of a successful armaments manufacturing firm started by James Nock in 1772. His successor was his son-in-law, James Wilkinson, who took over in 1804, and who was in turn succeeded by his son, Henry Wilkinson, who ran the firm until 1861. Early products included both swords (and lances and bayonets, etc.) and guns, which were a mainstay of the early business. An increasing reliance on the blade business in the 1880's lead to the adoption of the Wilkinson Sword name in 1887. They began to make straight razors in 1890, and brought out their first safety razor in 1898.

Wilkinson Royal Charter The high quality of the Wilkinson sword blade earned them the title of sword makers by appointment to the court of British monarchs for almost 200 years, and the right to feature the royal crest on their wares, including their razors. In 1993, Wilkinson was taken over by Warner-Lambert, the parent company of Schick Safety Razors. In 2000, Warner-Lambert was engulfed by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
