I have a Frederick circa 1885. The scales have a crack. Under magnification they have a grain. What were they made of: Wood, Baleen, or celluloid? Any help would help. Thanks

Hard to tell without some pics. :)
Most likely horn, but can't tell for sure without pics.
Do not think you could make scales out of Baleen
don't know. I know they were used as corset stays. never seen what it looks like.
What color are they ? Could be rescaled in anything and without a pic I would guess horn or slight chance of bone.

Beep Beep looks like HORN to me. Glue or epoxy it and sand it then polish. Glue the washers to it inside and out and run with it. Or make new ones.
