It is interesting looking but I would not recommend it if you want to start shaving. I would buy a honed, shave ready razor which this would not be. Check the classifieds here or there are several sites that sell good razors, ie-SRD, Whipped Dog, etc. Lots of info here, read these forums and you'll have a good idea of what to start with.

Looks like a good solid shaver, needs cleaning and honing and should serve you well for years..
The nose looks a tiny bit off but I think it is a shadow, makes sure there is no issue
Negotiate if possible on the price of course :)

Well first of all you might want to clean that first and see how dramatic the pitting is close to the edge and then you would have to pay for the honing if and only if they're is no pitting near the edge. From the looks of it will take about 2 hours of sanding to get it in decent shape and honing. This I what I would do I would try to talk the seller to a lower price and this is kind of how I would go about it. First show your interest and state that the razor has potential, but it is going to take some labor and you like it wrought to offer $? If he takes the offer you my friend have just started training in one of the many aspects of junk collecting... I meant antique collecting. So but it if you can talk the seller into a lower price, then clean it and save it until you feel confident to give honing a go.
Are you referring to that the end of the blade looks a little rounded? If that is the case, avoid buying it or would it still suffice?
No I mean it doesn't look smoothly rounded in the pic but it really looks like a shadow, just make sure it is smooth and not chipped..Quote:

My opinion, (not too many people that know me as for my opinion), if you are wanting to get into sr8 shaving, get a shave ready from classifieds or online. Many sources for inexpensive shave ready. If you are anything like me, and many others here, one is not enough. I purchased several off ebay for under 20 bucks and restored some, honed some, sent some out to be honed by others. I figured a vintage that is under 20 bucks or around that price, if it is restorable, will make a fine shaver. Plus its fun collecting. Lots of advice here on what to look for in used razors.
Looks nice. After a good cleaning and honing it looks like it will work fine. What is the manufacturer. My eyes are not good enough to read the tag.

Now I'm seeing some razors that have a very flat end that is squared at the top and bottom where this one sort of rounds around. Is there a pro or con to that?

I think your talking about a square point. You will most likely cut yourself more with a square point. A round point (like the one pictured above) will do just fine in most any case and you won't have to worry about cutting yourself as much as you would with a square. The one in the picture above though looks fine. How much is it going for? Like everyone else said all it needs is some cleaning and honing. I wouldn't even clean it up that much, maybe just enough to see if it has pitting on the blade and if not then I would hone it up. I suggest as a beginner that you send it out to one of the guys here in member services. Good Luck and Happy shaving.Quote:

Well like I said look up in the member services and pick your poison. You could also try to pick some one who lives near you and maybe meet up with them too and that way you will save money on shipping and handling but they will most likely give you some tips and teach you a thing or two. As far as what it would cost is up to you and the condition of the razor. If it is as I suspect and has little to no pitting especially on the blade and all you want is for it to be honed then I would say about 20 bucks is the average price for honing. If you want it shiny and like new well then that is up to the person doing the restoration to give you a price.
