I have been told that I have too many. I have 11 str8s with 2 more on the way. Is that too many? How many do you have? Am I wrong to think razors are like guns? If one is good two are better and a dozen or more is.......outstanding?
Oh, and I know if I don't say this, someone will ask....No, I wont send them to you because I have too many.:overkill:
I think you do, but I am not a collector. I have 3 and think it is one too many.
I have about 180 razors, which puts me on the low end of mid-size collection.
Adjust your expectations accordingly.

I believe I'm right around the 200 mark. My advice is to stick with top quality purchases and stay away from bargains.
So far most of the ones I've purchased are on the list of, good to have. I am new at this, so any help is appreciated.

Speaking for myself, I like to have one aspect of my life where I'm spoilt for choice.
I like my small collection (four dozen) of straights.
I like my small collection (two dozen) of soaps and creams.
I like my VERY small collection (six) of shaving brushes.
All jokes aside, razors are a solid investment and a joy to use :tu
In my eyes, the bigger the choice, the greater the pleasure.

Too many. Nonsense. No such thing. Smiling. I think many of us have that problem. I can't even tell you how many times I said this will be my last purchase. Keep on shaving brother.

From a user pov I would say yes. Oth from a collectors pov I would say not hardly. Enjoy your collecting, you are off to a good start.

Buy the best you can afford, I've always applied this logic to everything in life, buy cheap buy twice.
If you think 13 razors is too many, then it may be. It always amuses me when a person with ten-or-so razors worries about having RAD. I liken it to someone with the sniffles wondering if they may have pneumonia. But, then, RAD is a subjective disease. If you are a conservative person ten razors may seem excessive. If you are of a more compulsive nature, that's only a starting point. There are many people on this forum with hundreds of razors and who are still looking for more. There have been other postings on this subject in the past.

When it comes to straight razors having 'too many' is a contradiction in terms. :beer2:
The question is: howmany do you actually use? I have around 20 and frequently use maybe 5... Some need restoring first, some are plain ugly used for honing practice and some have no reason to not be used other than that I seem not to care about them. I'm selling off some and keeping the ones I like most.
Straight razors, dark chocolate, good brandy and a mate of your choice (if you so desire) are never to be considered in the category of excess!:rock:Quote:

Early on we have a tendency to accumulate razors. Some are worth having. Some are not, but we don't know any better. Eventually we learn, at least some of us, that quality is far better than quantity.
Since I have never been a collector of straight razors other than for daily use, I have no comments on that element of the straight razor world.
I have reduced my modest collection to 23 razors, including the Feather Artist Club DX, which I use for travel. I tried to trim to seven razors, but that proved hard. How do you choose between a Tuckmar or Carl Schlieper, Rudolf Schmidt or Guierrmo Hoppe, Fontana or Mann & Federlein's Mannos, Paul Schultz or Horstator? I rather fancy old German razors, as you see.
The dozen or so great Sheffield razors are gone. Fabulous razors, these, but they were heavy for my arthritic hands. So the decision was made for me. The Dubl Duck and C-Mon razors left a long time ago. They were quality razors, of course, but never impressed me.
I have two Heribert Wacker razors left and they stay — astonishing what a sweet edge they took. Also the three Thiers-Issard razors stay.
My three Ralf Aust razors, two 7/8 and one 6/8, will stay. It's surprising how sweet these razors are. So will a 7/8 of an old Modoso blank ground by Wacker — this one took a sweet edge, too.
Perhaps a few more of these razors will eventually go, but that will be a tough decision. Either way, I will keep the best razors I can afford.
When I hit 12 I found that I always used the same few, so I started giving away to budding straight shavers.
I have no desire to collect more than I use.

Well after just counting I’m at 18 that’s down from 25+. Everything I have falls into three categories;
1: Razors that I’ve purchased and love to use. (All are in my rotation).
2: Razors that are heirlooms and I will never sell (Both are in my rotation).
3: Razors that were gifts and will never be sold! (Most are in my rotation).
The reason that I’m down to 18 is because I’ve never ever sold a razor, I’ve given them to those who I’ve tried to help get started in this wonderful art! I’ve given anything from a near new DOVO 5/8 to a shortened 13/16 Friodur in custom scales. All the razors I’ve given away were purchased by me! Some were given to help a member out who was in need of funds to purchase a more suitable razor for their preference or beard.
I’m happy with what I have but if something comes along that I think that I might like, I may pick it up. If I find I don’t prefer it, it will eventually be sent along to help someone trying to learn this Ancient Art!

I have many razors (probably 250-300 and trying to get down to few), sold even more, coming EVEN more of purchased (not sure even why I bought them, I guess it is RAD) and I mostly shave with one old french razor, I try to shave with different razors from collection too but this one is my fav and nothing can beat it yet... so it is up to you but if you have too many you might never shave with them as with time you will be coming back to fav razor anyway. Recently I have give away 10-15 razors which I have purchased... I have two 7 days sets, both NOS and I even didn`t hone them yet and I think I will keep them for my sons. What I want to say is that if you will find few right/perfect fit razors for you then the rest will not matter anymore...

Sure, they will be all you could ever need though.
I've stopped the hoarding of new razors, well, slowed it down at the very least.
I guess that happens to most of us eventually:)
