Latest find "The Hamilton Hollow Ground Fully Warranted"

So I got out of work early last week for a medical appointment and had an hour to kill before the wife and kids got home. Went scrounging at my local antique mall and found 3 straights, two of which were in horrible shape and one fixer upper which I grabbed. So happens I have been putting a light box together on the cheap and I just tried taking photos worthy of sharing.... here are the results.

She is made by The Hamilton Razor Company which was in business from 1920 - 1940 and was based out of St. Louis. This is the first razor I have acquired with a decorated handle, so I'm pretty happy with that. The Standard Guide to Razors has a picture of one but it does not have a pin in the wedge end. Mine does... kinda (as you can see in the picture). Looks like a bad repair of a separated one piece wedge. Hoping I can pop the pin and make it look a little cleaner with a set of washers.

Cool scales, originally these scales had a lot more color to them, some members had really good success painting them.

Painting them is something I had not considered. Hmmm. The rabbit hole just keeps going doesn't it. :)

Matt, I have one like yours with out the pin in the wedge area It has a 5/8" hollow ground blade that seems fairly hard. I would like to find one with all the paint or at least a picture of one so I could get a friend to repaint mine. For some reason it seems the green lasted better than the other colors.

I agree on the green seeming to last longer. I wonder if it's because there is so much of it, the paint pigment bonded better, or a bit of both.

I think the green on the tail also lasted longer because You use the other end of the scales to hold the razor. Just a thought. I was sitting here looking at my Hamilton & had a "DUH" moment! LOL!

My Oldest granddaughter Lexi is a great artist & I showed her my Hamilton & several Peacock pictures & she is going to paint mine soon. She is good at little details & it should look great. Pictures to follow when it's done!
