Expert opinions please guys

Picked this up on eBay the other night whilst under the influence. Paid £16 for it, only bid £7 originally but the last 60 seconds got a little "crazy"
I plan to clean and polish it up and then get it professionally honed.
Eventually I'd like to replace the scales with wood, but that can wait until I see how it shaves.
This will be my first proper cut throat, currently I'm using a shavette style razor.

I think the scales are rather rare, and unless they are damaged you should clean around them, the spine looks to have a bit of un-even wear but the edge looks even and solid.. More pics would help...

Gentle cleaning and polishing then hone and enjoy is what I think :)

Looks like it will clean up nice. That rust spot in the middle of the etch is going to be a pain in the b^** and it has some serious hone wear in the middle but shouldn't prevent a pro from getting a nice sharp edge on it. Nice going !

Looks like a viable candidate to me.

Personally, I'd do little to nothing to it if you are not very experienced. I'd send it to a capable honer and ask them to do a basic cleanup and honing. Then gain experience with shaving with it.

Take your time to really consider if you want to do any sort of polishing or scale replacement. As it is, you have a neat piece with some age...once you start changing things you remove the history and character (IMO). Not a bad thing to do, sometimes...but only after due consideration;)

The rust spot on the etch is a concern. The etch looks quite clear and I'd hate dull it
