Why derail the entire thread after post #5 guys.
And a merry Christmas to all! ....Back to our regularly scheduled programming... Yup that blade looks like some other 14s I've seen. No worries.
Yes! It seems to possibly have a frown????? Could be camera angle? Show some more pics! Otherwise good!
Well that escallated quickly... :) Merry Christmas to all of you.
About the frown, its not a pronounced as the picture makes it look but its deffinately there. It does shave arm hair but its not shave ready, also it appears to have no hone wear at all.
My dear friends, I hone my razors but I have never tackled a frown as such what do you recomend (point me to a thread or video perhaps) to guide me into removing this frown.
Take a pic of the blade lying flat, horizontally. That would be good to see.
Those blades are fragile. Some expert help should be sought in removing a frown, IMO. It will have to be high-angle honed or the dreaded breadboard applied and a new bevel set before a nice hone job. Well worth it, I think.
You can search removing frown and similar in the search box at top right and come up with a ton of threads, I am sure!
And Merry Christmas to YOU, as well!
Regards,
Tom
Sorry about the frivolity, Samircanada.
If it has no hone wear, then it must have always been honed with tape on the spine - either that or it has 'freehanded' holding the back up slightly so the spine didn't touch the hone.
It would be interesting to know why the frown is there - bad honing or a kink in the spine.
You can test to see if the spine is warped by laying the blade on the hone, keeping the tang off the edge of the hone so it does not influence results. Put a finger at the tip of the spine and one on the spine at the stabiliser end and see if it rocks. Then turn it over and test the other side. If it rocks on one side and not the other the spine is warped, which might explain the spine being taped or elevated.
If it is warped you have a bit of a job on your hands, not recommended for an inexperienced honer to tackle.

Neil
