My First Vintage Straight Razor Purchase

I just bought my second straight razor. I have been doing a lot of research on what to look for and the right questions to ask before buying used straights. Hopefully this was a good purchase. The TREE logo dates in the 1924-1935 era. It is an H Boker & Co. King Cutter. It seems to be in pretty good condition, it will need to be polished and honed before i can use it. Good find! While I have not had the pleasure of a Boker I have only heard good things about them.

Bonkers are very nice shavers, at least those I've come across have been. Make sure to disinfect the blade. Scales look great. You might consider leaving the patena and just honing it up.

Most will sharpen the blade prior to restoration to make sure the edge will be acceptable. There may be someone in your area that can hone up the blade for you.

I would love to invest in the honing stones to do it myself. But I'm just getting started and I don't want to drop that much cash all at once. Within the past month I have already bought a new dovo best quality 6/8 straight razor, Silvertip brush, strop, stone lathering bowl, and now the boker. My wife isn't as proud of my new "investments" as I am so I'll have to wait on the stones. I have a norton combination oil stone and I can get a nice edge on a knife but it's too course for the razor.

Get a Norton 4k/8k & Naniwa 12k if funds allow. You'll be able to do 80% of hat you'll need to do for a small investment. I've saved money buying used razors vs new and used those savings to buy stones. At least that's the story I'm sticking too. Same with brushes, you can make them for a fraction of what they cost new.

That is one of the best excuses ever!! I will definitely be using that one in the future.

The vintage Bokers are right up there with Puma and are some of the best straights ever made.

That's quite the addition to the collection during this holiday season! Congrats! I am sure it will bring you many great shaves once it has been honed.

I have been trying to find an Extra Hollow Ground Boker for myself. Not much luck yet though.
