I should have taken a pic before I pulled the blade out but I was so bummed I didn't think of it. A Wester Bros Manganese steel with a 6/8 blade and beautiful scales. Stored in a cool, dark and dry cabinet waiting for me to get around to honing it. Must have been in there a year.

I pulled it out to give it a look and to my horror ...... freckles along the blade, peeked into the scales and saw puddles of a moist substance generated by the scales themselves.

You can see the stuff plainly in the photo. The blade is going to be alright, wasn't 'that' far gone. Just a shame that the beautiful scales are shot. Note the wedge end decorative cap that is showing corrosion from the gassing. the reverse side scale, and blade show no evidence of damage or deterioration.

I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Also, I have found that the razors whose scales have not gone may often have really cheap celluloid wedges that do go bad. DD's and a few others of the period are really notorious for bad wedge rusting of the blade end. So it pays when re-pinning to use new wedges.

I have a D Duck blue ribbon with the same scale material. I keep it in the gun safe coated with R.I.G. a type of rust preventive for firearms. so far theres been not sign of rust. I also have a green scale Hanns Otto De ?. cant spell or pronounce the name and too lazy to get it out of the safe. I have some razors that's been there for 25-30 years with this coating on them with no rust. really good stuff. I know it's a B. to clean off to shave but still no rust.
