Is anyone familiar with this razor/company?

Buffalo Horn Straight Razor and Practice Razor - Vintage Straight Razor

Coming from the DE world, I'm not very knowledgeable on the straight razor vendor list. Of course, the large, well-known makers I do know of, but I'm hoping someone here can tell me something about this company. Also, at the bottom of the page is an option to upgrade to Damascus steel. Is that really a good idea for a razor?

I'm still fairly new to straight razor shaving myself however, after spending months of researching I've seemed to conclude that if a brand new razor (just the razor that is) is much below $100 chances are you'll want to stay away. The exception seems to be vintage or old razors that have been restored. Such as those from the vendors and/or classifieds on this site. You can find some nice quality shavers for a much better price than you would for a brand new razor.

I would like to point out that I am not familiar with this company or razor but figured I could maybe help a bit.

If I'm not mistaken there are several threads here about that vendor and several not desirable experiences. I think there are better blades from better vendors. If you are looking for a new blade there are a lot of great vendors. In Canada there is Classic Edge and Fedrihan and in the US there is way more. SRD and Superior Shave and on and on, but not that one. Also there are great razor deals regularly here in the classifieds

No experience with that vendor but all the red flags go up for me on the price alone. I mean you can hardly get a decent 3 inch strop new for the price of the whole lit and caboodle offered. That is to say nothing of the cost of a new known name brand razor from a known reliable vendor which for the razor alone would be double or more than the cost of the offered kit. It seems to me that if it is too good to be true than usually it is. As far as Damascus steel goes, the real stuff is very expensive and usually only found on custom razors.

Package deals = instant crap! I'd rather take a chance on a single razor on eBay being better all around than what they are trying to pass off as 'known in America as #1 selling Buffalo Horn Straight Razor". But, then again, bad experience has me staying away as much as I can from eBay also. As suggested, look in the classifieds on SRP. If you are tight on money, check out Whipped Dog for ugly but damn good shavers.

Thank you all for the responses. I was able to find a beautiful vintage Sheffield razor that has been restored for an incredibly reasonable price. That along with ordering a new strop I believe I will soon have the tools needed to add straight razor shaving to my wet shaving enjoyment.
