Picked up a Broker Red Injun 101 and a Double Duck at a secondhand shop today. I figure I can use them to practice honing on when I get myself set up for it.Attachment 159032
For $8 and $15 respectively I won't feel too bad if they don't turn out well. And no shipping!

Thank you I feel pretty good about it. I'm excited to get started. I realize this might be a question for the honing forum but I was wondering if I bought the quarter Norton set from whipped dog if I should increase the number of x strokes due to the reduced surface area. I don't think it would affect circle strokes.

Lord Thunderin' Jesus did the razor God's smile on you today! Just in another thread, where one similar to yours, but a Wonderedge just sold for close to $300.00! Your's looks like it has the original box and the goldwash is completely intact on the blade? That's basically an NOS Double Duck Goldedge...you scored large, you were caller #9 and won the weekend passes, and I'm sure you get fan mail, even though you're a private citizen!
Sheesh...you don't do much better than a find like that, let alone with a Boker as well....you should go and buy a lottery ticket - NOW!!!

The only thing you need to send them both out for is a good honing to make them shave ready, usually a good service will also ensure the pins are tight. Take a glance in the Classifieds here for a member services close to your area. Those blades look perfect.Quote:

Wow Phrank I guess I did luck out. It does have a very slight nick in the blade but it seems pretty minor.

Alright, I am pretty well convinced. I can use some of the money I would have spent on equipment I don't have any experience with to have them professionally honed. I looked at about 20 razors today and these had the best blades as far as I could tell. it also helped that I knew the names but I had only heard of dubl ducks after joining SRP. Thanks for all the kind comments and encouragement.

I have to echo what others have said, send them to someone who knows what they're doing. You have two great razors there.
OK, OK no practice honing. Lol. I will send them out. Can't wait to shave with them.

You have a good source. What manufacturer is that (the straight)? Has a nice shaped barbers notch.
On the down side, it has a frown (not good, but can be fixed up by someone who knows what they're doing) and scales look to be plastic rather than horn (although I could be wrong). Still a decent find I'd say, pending manufacturer name...
Dear God I hope you took these gentlemens advice and didn't use these to learn to hone on. That DD looks really nice. Too nice for a lot of honing error. You want the rough stuff to learn honing on.
You know not what you have grasshopper.....like stated above...do not monkey with those blades and let a pro honemeister get them up to snuff....we wouldn't steer you wrong bro...
Sorry, forgot to mention it is a Torrey with the arched logo. I didn't notice the frown. I actually won it in the last seconds of an ebay auction. I've been wanting a Gem SE and although this is actually an Eveready; I thought it was close enough to take a chance on for the pair. I'll be able to get a better look at the blade(and take a better pic) when I receive it this Thursday. Less than $15 with shipping!
As I stated I wont be honing them myself. I don't even own any stones yet. Just waiting to get paid from a side job and then I plan on sending them to Lynn to be honed. Yes I wasn't aware when I purchased them for $23 total but have a pretty good idea now.
