Thread: Show me your extra long tailed razors for inspiration.

I don't see why your mock up wouldn't work. Your hand isn't going to interfere or the tang/tail IMO when stropping, the tail will poke through the other side of the scales like pictured, but will it really interfere?
Shaving though (hard to judge) the tail appears to be as long as the edge? I could see maybe issues shaving around the neck if you make an east to west or west to east pass holding the razor at a 90 like this L , if you know what I mean...the tail could end up hitting your collar bone, shoulders.....

That can easily be stropped

Yes, but in the case of this razor, It has been on the binders for a long time! No way would I take it to a hone, much less a decent strop!

I went out and rolled it on an old antique strop. The tail was bumping my little finger, so I opened it a bit more to cover the tang. The scale was high up and it threw it all off, so I went back to the pic configuration and went again. Actually, after a bit it started being very handy as turning the blade, the tang bumping my little finger helped tell me where I was. A 'stop', as it were.

So my initial scale design, might work after all right?

This is mine it a Brian Brown Custom Great little Razor.

Looks so! Seems the curve of the tail from the bottom would be what you might encounter. As the scales on your design are set straight, as is going to be comfortable, on a plane with the edge, the tip of the tang would be within the scales. You are there, so drill the pins and find out!

+1. I think it will be fine.
I'd say: just give it a try. Pin it together without peening (use 1/16 screws) and try to strop. I think the end of the tail will not interfacer with stropping at all, once you get used to it.

My De Pews. Have you seen the original drawings of the De Pews? I have a pdf I think of them if you haven't seen them...
