Should strop up nicely
I think that there was once no distinction between razors and knives. On Ebay, that sometimes seems to still be the case.
I agreee
I agree
Very interesting Roberto, any idea on age? does it fold into the handle?
Well Martin103, it apairs in an archaeological excavation were I work, the main material found are roman, becuse the uppers levels more recent are considered mixture and refused, but I worked in it more than ten year, and with two or three director fosil I cold put the knife into aound the 16th century more or less, I protect the blade with resin but it apairs closed, is all I can say, thanks
I can just imagine it on ebay.
A few small nicks in the blade - should hone or strop out easily
Very rare antique straight razor (though probably true in this case)
Will make a very nice addition to your collection (again, probably true here)
Very good condition for its age.
And then there would also be a multitude of capital letters and exclamation marks in the title.
Many thanks, I only use Todocoleccion, recomended, but this knife apairs in Granada in a work into a Jewry, there we found lots of sigilata during a building dig, and then made a correct escavation, but wen the firsts levels are moved by the promotors, the objects found into are considered not datable ad refused, normally we send all this collage to the university to work students, but is easy, is the case, that one or three things desapear, I ignore the use, I can say a aproximade datation by the rest of the context, It is all I know, in the diferent pages I foud about thesaurs finder I could see difrerent knifes like that, with a lot of mixtured datations, and all of them like razors, because I show you but I dont know more than you, It isnt roman, sure....jejejejeje
I was actually being sarcastic, because a lot of the razors on ebay that are in an un-usable condition, but trying to be described as one.
The razor you found does look like a nice find though. I remember reading somewhere that it wasn't until the 1500s that folding razors were invented.
@roberto Very interesting find!
Do you know the type of metal the blade is made from? Bronze? Copper? Steel?
What material is the handle? Wood? Bone?
Thanks for the explanation, but it is not necesary, I only try to show everybody the origen of the rests :) dificult use it :) thanks nevertheless ans I spect my english not to make too much disasters
In a dry land provably only hard iron, not steel sure and not bronze or any cooper alloy, thanks
Roberto, I may be mis-interpreting what you wrote, but when you say "Granada in a work into a Jewry" are you saying an old Jewish settlement/section of Granada? If so, I would like to put forth the concept, since probably most Jews of the time didn't shave, that it could be a ritual circumcision razor?
Yes, this knife was found in Granada in a Jewry, I´m not sure withe the use, I found it in a french page, if it could help you.......

Thank you, thank you, I'll take my bows now, thank you. But I would like a Judaic expert to make comments. It just seemed logical since I don't think decent scissors were available at that time. Plus, I think that was before the Inquisition and expulsion of Jews from Spain.
