    Default Anyone know this one?

One side has 'otto busch / solingen wald' stamped into it.
    the other has '124 weltmeister'.
It's a 11/16 full hollow with simple black plastic scales.

It's the first razor I ever had, and I am having my doubts about the quality of the steel.

On the 4K it continuously leaves grey trails. On the 8K it catches the stone with each pass, as if burrs get cought in the stone. When I hold it to the light, I can see microchipping.

The only way to get it to sharpen without burrs is on the yellow coticule.
And even then, it gets dull after a couple of shaves, to the point where I simply cannot use it anymore.

Is it possible for solingen steel to be rotten?
Not that I don't dare question my technique, but this one is the only one so far that behaves like this.

I love Worldmasters. My favorite shaver is a Worldmaster or Weltmeister (as it is called in German.)

They hone up quite easy and hold an excellent edge. If you don't like it you can always send it my way.

In that case I'll give it one more go. I'll reset the whole thing on 1K and take it from there. If I still can't get it right I'll let you know.

Yeah, sounds like you may have some old/oxidized or otherwise weak steel at the edge to clear off first.

    This made me think.

The razor had lain unused in the bathroom closet for a couple of years. Then I ruined the edge by stropping at a 45 degree angle (before SRP. i didn't know any better)

After that I bought a coticule and got it to the point where is popped a hair here and there (HHT).

I think that maybe it is a combination of having a wire edge and oxidized steel, since the coticule did not take away a significant amount of steel.

I'll give it a good seeing to on the 1K

1k or a couple of laps on some 1000 grit paper would do the trick.
