I just had to. A brief Journal entry.

I had posted this razor some time ago when I first got it. There were many posts educating me on the history of these blades and how they came about.
I am quite fond of the documentation of this particular razor and it's history of who the owner was as well as the documentation from the French Historical Society.
Now call me crazy or just plain stupid but it sat in my collection and It just made me wonder what shaving with it would be like. I always said that any razor in my collection would be used at least once.
Well tonight was the night I broke down and used it.
And I'm glad I did.
Honing it was a bit nerve wracking at first as I had a fear of damaging the hand painted Wale Bone scales and wearing it off somehow. Or my worst fear , dropping it.
I made it through the honing and stropping in fine style getting a great edge on both blades. Now on one of the blades there is a very fine nick near the heel but I wasn't about to go grinding off steel just to make it go away. I don't generally shave with the heel and if needed I had a second blade ready should the need arise. I haven't done a thing , besides honing, to this razor and don't plan on doing any resto work either. it is what it is.
I lathered up with some Tabac and went at it. Let me tell you. Not having a tail on a razor is a bit odd to say the least. Let alone having not just a scale but another blade hanging off the other end. Well it didn't take to long to make some adjustments and the shave went just fine.
The grip was a bit unconventional but I got a BBS shave in one major pass with just a few ATG passes to clean up. This included ATG on my upper lip.
The second blade didn't really present any problems as it's held in place quite securely by the leather wedge. Even after all this time the leather still holds the blades nicely. Each one is skewed slightly to rest against opposite scales and wedges,,,,, well in the wedge!
I don't think this will become a daily shaver but it certainly won't go unused for such a long time from here on out.
I know this isn't a true journal entry and belongs in the SOTD but I thought how many guys are shaving with one of these on any given day?
If the post needs to be moved that's fine, but I thought this , at least for me, was something unique.

About time you used that one Mark! It certainly is a unique razor and one you don't run across, ever. Nice brush and stand by the way!

Wow, I can't believe it.

I was told about a straight razor that had two blades in it. That one blade came out either side of the pivot area. I'd done a bit of looking around, but had never seen anything, and now I have. They really do exist!
