Darn! Dropped my SR in the sink and now there's a small chip out of the corner...

...of the blade, opposite the hinge. It's right at about the 45 degree mark on the corner. I only paid $50-$75 for this on Ebay a few years ago so having it repaired could easily cost more than the razor is worth. Would it work to reshape the corner on my regular grinder in my shop? I know I'd have to be careful not to over heat it. Any advice? It was a great shaving SR. Kind of hate to give it up. But it's not like it's the only SR I have. I have four others, all of which are much more expensive. I just thought I'd try and save the chipped one if possible.

Trying to get my pics here. Adobe plugin keeps crashing. Gotta' love Adobe...crap! Can't seem to get my images here. I emailed them from my phone to my computer (they're in my Inbox), downloaded them to Windows Photo Gallery. They don't show up anywhere in Windows Photo Gallery or on my browser but they're still in my Inbox. Frustrating. Especially for a computer idiot like me. Oh well...

DO NOT USE A GRINDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A dremel is your best choice. SLOW, STEADY and keep it COOL!
I swear there is a tutorial here on doing this.

Depends on what you call a chip. :shrug: That pic will help.

If it's not too large I'd take it out by hand on a diamond plate or a low grit stone. Much less room for error. A power tool has no mercy if it grabs an edge. :gaah:

...or sand paper or a course stone. I have reshaped plenty of razors using a grinder as well as a Dremel but it requires a steady hand and nerves of steel, it's a good thing I'm an heavy drinker:beer2:

Tried the pic again. I have it in Windows Picture Gallery but can't get it to the forum. I click the "Insert Image" icon, click the "Browse" button, and I can't find the pics??? Suggestions?

Try the basic uploader button on bottom right. click on computer at top, not url. Then click browse. See if that works.

If you have a Dremel, use the flexible shaft attachment. It will give a lot more control for delicate work.

That is TRUE! I should have stayed that. The way it sounded it was like it was a BIG chip.
If it's more of a DING then yeah a diamond plate or a 1k stone will do it!

I think Tom's correct about how the new system works, I click on computer then the Basic Downloader and find the picture I want to post. I have a ton of pictures so I usually copy and past the one I want on the desktop so that it's easy to find, and then delete it after it's uploaded. Oh, it can take awhile to show up once you tell it to upload.

Looking forward to some pics.

Doesn't look too bad. I've fixed up a couple of razors in similar condition with chip at toe. Just reshape to fix. I've done by hand as well as used a slow moving water cooled grinder called a Tormek. Most important to keep cool if using any kind of power equipment be that dremel or grinder. Doesn't take much so go slow and have a shape in mind - maybe draw it on blade with marker. Give it a go, you'll be fine. Lou

I agree, as its saveable, I've done some that were about the same, just take your time, I've never used any power tools I have used a DMT to to that removal and I work from the spine to the edge.

Use a sharpie and get your curvature so you can keep it like you want it. You don't want to have to go back and reset the curve Again :banghead:

Should be fine. When it's done you can show people the before pics and then show them how you saved it.

Take your time, and enjoy repairing it. :tu

Here it is almost finished repairing the AW CRAP but Before cleaning up the blade:

After the last pic I lowered the angle to finish rounding so that the edge would be easier to restore. It was Rob's W&B and he didn't want to send it as he figured it was toast and would only be a display or conversation piece. I'm glad he let me have a go at it as he liked the shave AND the way it looks :tu

The W&B was a very heavy grind from what I can see of yours it much more hollow so the work will take a lot less time and effort.

Check & see if adobe had an upgrade recently. You might need to upgrade & download it.
