Finally I am over the Feather Artist SS

Over the last two years I've been shaving almost exclusively with the Feather Artist SS. On occasions I would use DE. The Feather is incredibly sharp but the not the smoothest. Shortly after I got the Feather I ventured into the real straights getting couple of decent DOVOs. I could not continue with them as I was getting far superior shaves with the Artist SS. Time went by and I thought that I would like to try the real straits again. I simply love everything about the concept. This time I got the following (and more to come):

Tim Zowada Carbon Series 11/16 with Honduran Rosewood. It shaves unbelievably smooth. To say that it is a pleasure to use is an understatement. Then there is the 7/8 Hart Steel honed by Tim's son Nate. Awesome shaver, perhaps not as smooth as Tim's. Next is Max Sprecher restoration of 7/8 Frederic Reynolds (via great member in Belgium). That's a near wedge classic that is simply great treat.

Of course by now the RAD is in full swing and I still have coming NOS Heljestrand MK32 and Filarmonica 14 Doble Temple JMP. In addition I ordered a full custom from Ulrik Beyer. That will be 7/8, 1/4 Hollow French point. Still undecided on scales.

I see your RAD is just now starting to kick in. Nice collection.

Don't forget the stones!! And an awesome strop or three!

You're not kidding. Try 4 strops, lapping plate, Naniwa 12K and some diamond sprays. Now I've gotta learn how to use it all ... :-)

Obviously you've got good taste. That biz about learning how to use it all ....... that is real, so slow down on the acquisition disorders and give yourself a chance to enjoy what you have. It is so easy to get caught up in the every day being Christmas aspect, and never really appreciate what you have. Not to mention too much too soon complicates learning to use it all. Don't ask me how I know .... :p

You're absolutely right. My objective for the next 6 months is to learn how to effectively and reliably refresh a great edge.

At this point I'm not even thinking about honing. That's why I buy shave ready from uber reliable sources. The edge that Tim Zowada puts on his razor is unreal. All the time I was shaving with Feather I keep reading about smoothness. Never knew what it truly meant till I started to use Tim's razor.

Very nice taste. The advice about slowing down and learning the nuances of each razor is a good one. Sometimes it takes a few shaves (and hones) to really learn how best to use and hone a razor.
