More info on a Colibri
Hi there,
This week I received a 7/8 Colibri no. 7. I'm curious about this razor, but Google didn't solve this for me. So I'm turning to you guys. Can you help me to more info on this razor?

Welcome to SRP, Colibri is french for hummingbird, i came across a few of these razors on here and online, they look to be a very nice quality razor. That said most are marked on the back of the tang with "forgé et évider Solingen Germany.
Surely a German made razor for a french market, Enjoy!

It could be a French made razor as well.

Thank you for your reply. It must be a good quality razor, since I saw a few of these (but another type) on eBay going at high prices. These types also got some nice comments on other fora. But on this type I haven't been able to find any history. The backside of the tang (sorry, forgot a pic) is indeed marked "forgé & évidé Solingen".
It is a very nice razor indeed. I tried it for the first time yesterday, and it gave a very nice shave. It was very sharp, but very smooth at the same time. The guy I bought it from from honed it on a succession of Naniwa's up to 12k, then stropped on the paddlestrop from Rasurpur with latigo and bridle. I hone on the same Naniwa succession, but then strop on balsa with Crox and Feox and conclusively on the Poorman's strop. This also gives me a very sharp edge, but it seems to be a bit raw compared to the edge of this Colibri.
Anyway, I hope someone can help me to find some history on this brand and this particular razor.

Glad you like it, I don't have any specific information about the Colibri razors but living only a few miles from France I have found them many times (mostly smaller ones), they take a good edge and are a pleasure to shave with.

Hi Snuff. I was wondering when you'd show up ;). Yes, I am a very happy man when using this razor. Since I was curious about it's history, I thought this would be the place to ask for help, rather then on ShaSoc.

This razor was produced in Solingen by Gebr. Rückels

Here is a thread on a Colibri which was rescaled in camel bone by a forum member:http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...mop-wedge.html

Thanks! Looks really nice. I want to make some nice new scales for my Colibri in due time cause the current ones are the original black plastic ones. I was already thinking 'bout some nice white or cream colored horn with a black or perhaps red wedge. But camelbone looks really nice too. Or layered micarta, but I haven't been able to find that yet.

Hi dutchcutthroat and welcome on SRP.
Sadly, I don't have any information about the Colibri razors, but I do have some examples myself. Great shavers.
