Display case meets Vintage Tool chest

So I wanted to combine my display and have all my gear in one place. In a pinch I can grab and goes . Fix and fly, Shave and carry. Its a Gerstner 1935 11drawer machinist box. Old growth Red Oak that was Quarter sawn to give it the Tiger paw look in the wood.

If anyone knows how to rotate these picture let me know .. They are in the correct orientation on my laptop. Upload twists them I apologize for the neck twisting.

That's fantastic....I've been looking for a more permanent type of storage for my razors for awhile and this is the first time I've seen something that makes sense.

Now I have to try to find one of these old machinist boxes.

I love my old Gerstner box - but mine is filled with machinist tools.
Wonderful use for it though and glad to see another one in good condition.

E bay always has some. I also got tray liners for fountain pens. Felt on the front and plastic on the back. This cradles each razor. If you lubricate your blades after use. You can put it away and not worry about bleed through to your drawer felt below. each drawer is also airtight and all joints are dovetailed.. A variety of American hardwoods are used, bottoms of drawers are all done in galvanized metal covered in felt for durability and stability for the contents. Its something to look into.

Andrew, HF has a tool box almost as nice as this one for less than $100. I have one and I plan on getting a second, I have that many razors.

They are built to last, so it was in great shape. Washed it with Murphy Oil soap twice. It you look at the hardware it needs to be polished. The company carries all replacement parts back to when they started. This one was considered damaged by the purists because of the lockset that was added and removed on the right. It makes the perfect spot to insert an eye-hook that I keep for hanging strops.
If i had to grab my gear and go.Everything you need is organised.Tools, stones, brushes, soaps, straights, scuttles and a mirror for in a pinch. Functional and organised around here we call it Midwestern values.
If you get one you will never want to part with it,just be forewarned. Its built old school, and the company stand behind the product.

That is a nice Box. Always wanted one.

I have one also. They are great. I must say that yours is way more organized than mine. Nice wood one yours too.

Too cool. I love old wood transformed by craftsmen into utile works of art. Old oak, maple, and walnut is sensual, almost sexual in delighting both sight and touch. Your re- use of a work-a-day craftsman's everyday work item is inspired. Thanks for the share.

There are some on eBay, very nice one's too, but I'm going to do some looking around the city first.

Excellent - you've got one as well....what are you storing in it....did you get one for razors or did you already have one?

I have three, all for razors and some tools. I like them but they do have a few flaws, the drawers are to loose for my liking and the construction is not what I would prefer but the cost offsets the flaws. I want to deconstruct one so that I can figure out how to build one myself.

When I was hunting for the Gerstner Machinist chest, I found the plans to build one of your own...believe it was on eBay? Might be worth checking out...my wife won't let me touch power tools or most machines with moving parts...I like to keep her thinking that way....it's part of my, "strategic helplessness", that prevents her from assigning me to do stuff...and in the event I'm on the hook to do it, I make sure I screw it up and I remember to always hurt myself somehow.:p

When this thing arrives, will be organizing and definitely will post some pics....

Damn, that is where I screwed up. My wife's father couldn't build a 2x4 if you gave him plans, blue prints and a 2x4 so I am the one to do all of the repairs, most of which he causes.

Thanks again....I feel like a kid at Christmas! The 16 fountain pen display case and the large wooden box I've been keeping my razors in for the last year had been really bugging me for the last couple of months...I've got the W&B's in the large wooden box, and far too many razors in the pen display case...also, have them on top of books in my bookshelf...have some beautiful gentlemen sets and a 7 day set stored somewhere else, then DE's...just lots of stuff....so to finally have it organized and stored safely and coherently is really important to me. The 50 blades in my rotation will store nicely in their razor socks, and there will be a place for everything else.

Real gerstner tool chests are works of art and odiousley expensive.
Back in the day I had 4 of them,Believe it or not, the chinese knockoffs are very well built.
I only have one left,my great granfathers from the 1920s I think,used and abused but still a nice Chest.
