Attachment 179011 I put out a wanted ad on a Facebook page looking for straight razors. I got a reply with this picture but no information on the razors. I am planning on looking at them a little later this weekend but was wondering if any of you recognize any of these razors and know if they would be worth having. The guy said he would sell me one of them for all of them. What do you guys think?
Looks like a nice collection. The one on the right appears to be clad in Ivory scales and the two just to the left of it look like bone other than that I have nothing without better pictures of the tangs. If you had a better location in your profile gssixgun AKA Glen could possibly be of assistance to you.
Ya I figured I wouldn't get to far with this picture. I am having the guy send me some better pictures and I will include them when I get them.

This photograph is of little help in determining the condition of these razors. Ask for better photos to help in our identification and evaluation.
Go look at them and get them all if cheep and not cracked etc
the centre one is sus not open
Just my personal opinion, but the one over at the right looks pretty old and could be the pick of the bunch. As Obie has suggested you should ask for more information and better photos
Ok so I went and checked the razor collection out and he sold me the lot for 50.00. I'm still a rookie so I will include some better pictures and you can let me know what you know about these razors.
Can't make out the brand. Comes in just under 6/8 could be extra hollow. ... if that's an accurate term.

Taylor witness sheffield. 5/8+ that's not a Crack on the toe it's just a mark from the scales. Has a lead wedge.

Looks like a good haul at a great price. Get them honed and shave with them then report back.
The one on the right looks like a joseph elliot i picked up for three pounds. Mine no jumps and marked joseph elliot sheffield (england?) sorry away for restoration and not sure about england. Scales also look identical, very flimsy feeling. But mine has barbers notch. Near wedge. What is best guess of age of that razor from some one with better idea of what they are talking about? and by that i mean me, just realized that sounded as though i meant some of the other people posting.
The one on the right, the Joseph Elliot looks like ivory but isn't.
I made a mistake in my previous post, mine is a John Elliot, not a Joseph Elliot. Anyone know anything about John?
This razor maker may have had a family link to Joseph Elliot but has been difficult to confirm because the name was sometimes spelled Elliott. John Elliot was born in 1795 & by 1841 was living in Western Bank & was in partnership with Joseph Elliot until about 1850. By 1851, he was living & working in Townhead Street. At The Great Exhibition in 1851, he displayed razors so thin, he claimed they never needed grinding again & had ornate razors with gold & silver backs. John Elliot, razor manufacturer, died in 17 Feb 1858 at 63 years old.Quote:

Thank you very much, hadn't even found that much. Got a bargain for three pounds then. Mr Glynn at restored razors has sharpened it and it is on its way back to me. He says my scales are ivory. Do look to have a bit more grain pattern and some staining as on old ivory. Do you think this would fit with the dates of John Elliots work?
It might be possible but Ivory scales usually didn't have collars on the pins. I hope he is right & that they are Ivory. Ivory scales are usually also very thin, much thinner than conventional scales.Quote:

Nobody mentioned the W. M. Morley and sons, these razors take a wicked edge and are fantastic shavers, a good candidate for restoration.
