Thread: Straights for the road

Simplest travel kit is, replaceable blade SE, DE, kami, or straight, blades, shave stick soap, small brush in travel holder.
Anything over this is fun and takes up room. Add Straight and strop if wowing the truckers! Or, if you have time to really get a pleasant shave!

30 years and 3 million miles looking at the world through wind shields. I hung up my spurs 10 years ago.

First 20 years, I loved it. Next 5 I tolerated it, last 5 I hated it. I didn't hate the driving part, I hated the attitude of all the young buzz cut cops and the truck driving school graduates with NO DAMN CLUE about the old "code of the road". Last run I made was on 13 axles to KS. Got it delivered, stacked the trailer, drove back, pulled all my stuff out of my truck, walked into the dispatch office, pitched 'em my keys, credit cards, and what nots, and told 'em to mail me my check, I didn't live there anymore. The dispatcher stood there looking like the butter just slid off his biscuit and wanted to know why.

Told him I was tired.

Every now and then when I see a REALLY nice heavy haul rig, I get interested for about three seconds til reality kicks in.

Last road trip (for vacation) was 10 days
I took 2 freshly honed straights
1 brush in a medicine container
1 tube of cream
Shaved every other day in absolute comfort.

I tend to go real basic.

Gillette fat tech, shark or astra blades, re knotted vintage brush, tube of cream usually nivea, musgo, or D.R. Harris Windsor. AS balm is Prorasso.

Most of my trips are over night. I was thinking of a Feather or something similar, a SE just a little easier to pack and can be left in my bag so I can grab and go without a thought

I isn't any kind of a life at all. I haven't enjoyed it for many years but for now its what I have. No real complaints about it beyond the lack of family time. For now it's a job that pays the bills, and gives me a few bucks in my pocket.

If I travel by car I take a Muhle R41 DE/spare blades, a synthetic shave brush and the usual as/edt and a balm. By air I had been using a few cheap disposable twin blade razors instead of a DE but will in the future take the Muhle taken down to 3 pieces and pack the DE blades in my checked bag. Try to stick with straights, or at least my Feather DX.

For longer trips I carry straights in a leather pouch for two razors, together with a 2" strop.

Alternatively, when going by air with only a carry-on bag; I use my 3-piece Mühle and put it disassembled together with the electric toothbrush in the toothbrush container.
Fits perfectly and airport security never raised an eyebrow.
DE blades I can somehow always find at the other end.

With a synthetic brush I don't need to worry about drying, and I carry either as a minimum a La Toja shaving stick (comes in its own container), some soap, or cream like Nivea that is sold in smaller (100ml/3oz) sizes.
