Thiers-Issard shave ready, or not!
-
They are as close as any new razor will ever be. Even with all the mentioned steps, without hand testing and refining of each edge it is still hit and miss.
Most I have owned were very, very close. An abrasive paddle was almost always all that was needed to get the last 5% from them.

. . . and yet that last 5% is important.

Most of the TIs I've bought new were pretty darn close to being shave ready. They actually gave a pretty good shave. Of course they could all be improved upon.

I agree with the consensus here and it jives with my own experiences. TI's are almost keen. With today's pace of construction I'm sure they don't have time to get it all the way keen. It is always best to keen it (or send it out to be keened) when received new.

I have 3 TIs. They are a 5,6,and 7/8ths. All but the 6/8th SRP #23 were perfectly sharp and didn't require anything. My Straight Razor Place one took me forever (many sessions) to make properly sharp. I was worried that it had a grind flaw. It took intensive work on the Norton prior to a coticule to get it right. luckily I taped the spine. It now has a wickedly sharp edge.
Did anyone else recieve a rather dull club SRP razor?

My SRP was impressively keen. I thought they included a Lynn honing till I found out otherwise - it was that sharp. Luck of the draw, I guess.

Bottom line......NOT........

I guess it depends on what you call sharp and shave ready...I own 12 ti 4 6/8 and 8 7/8 ...each one arrived in unacceptable shave ready condition...in fact I had to completely rehone all but one...this is pretty standard for ti and dovo...I think they machine sharpen and ship...Its cost prohibitive for them to do much more...
-
TIs come real close. I have three and one actually came shave ready right out of the box. The other two required some work.

Hey Lynn, why doesn't SRD carry Thiers Issard razors? I think I want one, but I want to buy from you because you make sure they are properly honed before you ship them to the customer.

You might want to PM Lynn with any vendor questions. This thread is 6 years old.
