Just ran across this on the bay; was wondering if anyone knew anything about this brand. I've never seen it before. Claims to be handmade Japanese steel. Could be worth checking out I guess

There was a previous thread and the censuses was a "Dressed Up Chinese razor." It shares a lot of blade resemblance to a GoldDollar. I will get tar'ed and feathered for saying this but the GD's are decent razors if their honed properly. I would pass and get a nice used S.R. from a member on the forum. It will come S.R. and you will be money ahead in the long run.

I have tried one sometime ago out of curiosity and for the benefit of the members here. Again, you may want to try something else. I would also tell you to skip the gold dollar razors as well.

It's nearing the price where you can get a good vintage razor made by a known cutler (which results in a more skillful grind, and often a straighter razor - one devoid of problems like interfering shoulders, etc).
that razor may be ground straight, I don't have any experience, but the grind itself looks rudimentary and plain with a few shakes of hard buffer work thrown in. I'd like a few thousand other people develop consensus about the things before I got them.
When I think of japanese steel, I think of yasuki steel. I'm not sure anything else really moves the needle. A very large proportion of japanese razors were made with european steel, and not japanese steel. A japanese razor with european steel is a much more favorable combination than a chinese razor with stainless steel.
Another aside, if you ever did get a stainless razor that was truly hardened to rc65, you would hate it. HATE it. that level of hardness is reserved for plainer carbon steels if you want them to be manageable on the hones. Anyone who has ever honed or ground high speed steel will identify with what I'm saying.
Tried one as well as a Bakkus which was described the same Japanese stainless or whatever. It shaved fine, Its a Gold Dollar with stainless steel and they both had wooden scales. Slightly longer to hone as the increased polishing shortened the toe even more than the usual GDs. And thats both of them.
I'm at a loss as to why a razor made in china is $65-76. Did they start out that expensive?Quote:
