Found at local Pawn Shop: Wostenholm & Sons

Was in the local pawn shop earlier today, and asked if they ever got any straight razors in. They pulled this one out of the safe. The stamp on the tang is barely readable due to rust, but you can see "Sheffield" on it, and the box is a bit more readable. What interested me was the scales. They are in really good shape. I asked about buying it, but they're not sure what it's worth. Sorry the pic is a little out of focus...took it with my phone.

If it was cheap I would pick it up just for the scales no matter the condition of the blade. If the blade is salvageable that would just be a bonus.

I think the blade is salvageable, but unfortunately I don't think they'll sell it for cheap.

Thats how alot of pawn shops and antique stores are around me. If its old everyone seems to think its worth a fortune no matter the condition.

Look at the shank - that razor started a fair bit bigger before it was reground. The scales are horn with MOP inlay, may be silver on the crosses.
It seems strange that a pawn shop would have an item for sale that they don't know what to sell it for, but may be it's just me having next to none experience with pawn shops. I like the scales and would probably pick it for them if it's cheap, then put a less altered blade in them, then put its blade in more pedestrian scales and hone it for a cash-strapped newbie.

If they don't want to sell it cheap they can keep it in the safe until they find more foolish buyer.

I would pass on the whole deal. The razor is in rough shape.

Ditto on what Wid said, there are so many good deals out there. Just have to let the pawn shops and antique guys sit on those until they get realistic on the prices.
