W&B, Gilbert Brothers, Gleason and help I'd??

Hey all,

I recently found a retiring barber who wanted to sell her old razors. I bought the Gleason because it's brand new and will make a good daily shaver. I bought the Gilbert Brothers because it looked cool and is restorable condition. I bought the "Magnum Bonum" because Damn! Who doesn't want to shave with a meat cleaver? It looks like new except the area above the scale line.

The fourth razor has spine work I've never seen and since lots of companies used the term "Universally Approved" it's hard to tell who the maker is. Anyone have any ideas?

The Gilbert is a Masonic razor, it's junk. I have a disposal site for those things. The magnum Bonum? Pure junk, Voidmonster has a disposal site for those things. ;)

Just kidding. Good haul. You've got some choice old Sheffield steel in that pile.

I would recommend letting a pro hone them. The Magnum appears to have a small chip and the Gilbert has been many a mile up and down a hone. The Universally Approved doesn't have a lot of wear and the The Gleason, as you stated looks new. It will hone up the easiest.

The big blades are nice to shave with, once you learn to use them. ;)

Wow - some pretty awesome "finds" from the local barber, all really superb antique blades, don't know about the newer one, but the rest are all easily 120+ years old, which for me in this hobby, I find completely fascinating! Congrats!
