I have had several razors with Perlex and Plastic scales and the scales broke in the
first 3 or 4 years.
I now use 2 Razors with Micarta scales that are a bit bulky but do not break (7 or 8 yearrs).
What other, more noble but also sturdy material would you recommend.

Any of the Resin materials like the G10/Micarta are rather tough, the draw back is the weight and they must by thinned down to about .100 or even less to become flexible and non-bulky..
Ebony, Cocobolo, (rosewoods et al), and Lignum Vitae are very good woods for scales too
They are tons of materials that worked, but these come to mind when linked with the word "Durable"
Carbon fiber is another super tough material.
Acrylic will work fine if the scales are made correctly, and pinned right.
The most durable and sturdy material I know is G10.
Sylvain, Welcome to SRP, got a few 150-200 years old razors, all with horn scales.......... thats seems durable.

Same here & they seem to last longer than some of these new scales made from plastic. I have repaired some of the older horn a time or two but they do last a lot longer. I also have some G-10 I haven't used yet but i've heard that they are strong & I have seen some used by gssixgun that are very good looking & strong or he would't use them. I'll be using some jade green G-10 soon on a Green Lizard blade I have.
I don't make scales, but have some and have pinned some in G10. The stuff seems indestructible. JMO
